This film should be declared a national treasure. Three generations of Americas best black comedians (Foxx, Pryor, Murphy) along with a great supporting cast (excepting a poor performance by Arsenio Hall) including Charlie Murphy (RIP) hovering and underused. Panned by critics but loved by fans, this film is a classic.
really?! this was panned by critics?! that stuns me, I went in watching this having the lowest expectations in the world because for me Red Foxx alot of his stuff hasn’t aged well, Richard Pryor same thing but prefer him as a stand up comic then then the films he starred in and Eddie Murphy I’m just not a huge fan of his films or stand up, but this was an incredible film and ALMOST flawless. to hell with the critics who can praise Richard Pryor if he’s in a movie with Gene Wilder, or Eddy Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cops and his first two stand up shows, but not this film which was brilliant written and acted. 5 stars or 10 stars and two thumbs up for me this film
I love this movie. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it but it feels like not enough.
Beautiful story.
Once again, this is just exquisitely acted by Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow.
My first time watching a movie in black and white. Not bad.
FYI: There are quite a few b&w movies that still work:
"Cape Fear" 1962 version
"Night of the Hunter"
"To Kill A Mockingbird"
"The Day The Earth Stood Still"
"M"
and at least 50 more.
Do a google search on “IMDB Best Black And Whites Movies” and you’ll get people’s playlists. Then pick one and sort by rating and you should get many to choose from.
On a personal note:
I use “Whatever Happened To Baby Jane” for sibling advice and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” for marital guidance. I think my grand parent’s generation had these things figured out. :-)
By the way, both movies can be better enjoyed with excessive alcohol and someone you deeply resent. The airing of grievances and ensuing emotional abuse just makes for a great family event. Thanksgiving is probably the best time to put those on!
Baby Jane is one of my favourites too! I’m sure I’ve seen it more than 10 times.
I first fell in love with horror movies watching these old black and whites when I was a kid in the late 60s. This is another really good one …at least my 9 yr old self thought so https://www.primewire.tf/movie/112967-the-brain-that-wouldnt-die
I think I’m going to watch it again right now, 51 year later 😊
Props on “Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?”. It’s just the one of the best character pieces ever done.
Blanche: “You wouldn’t be able to do these awful things to me if I weren’t still in this chair.”
Jane : “But you are, Blanche! You are in that chair! “
Jane : “I don’t want to talk about it! Everytime I think about something nice, you remind me of bad things. I only want to talk about the nice things.”
For context, Jane is a women who often sucks on strawberry ice cream and wears children’s clothes with heavy makeup.
First time watching this. Was pretty good. The version I watched was subtitled though.
All these types of shows start off so good. Then turn into crap. All of them get human forms which takes the fun out of the concept. The spider one that’s kind of like this does the same thing. And just becomes boring.
for some reason with evangelicals i always think of e l doctorow’s ‘ragtime’ with the old timey tents and charlatans and abuse. he does atmosphere really well
I haven’t read ‘ragtime’, but I do a similar thing. I think of Jim Casy from the “Grapes of Wrath”. I’ve met his doppelganger several times.
PS - We can go back to “The Canterbury Tales” for even older tropes: The Monk, The Friar and The Pardoner. Pardoning unrepentant sinners for cash, where have I seen that?
I was watching a Jon Bon Jovi video for It’s My Life and I had to pause it to get a good look at the teen aged boy in the video. And low and behold, it was Will Estes! I’m sure some of you heard how Jon Bon Jovi talked a lady out of jumping off a bridge on Wednesday. I do believe there are living angels amongst us!
Completely unrealistic. Ain’t no way someone from Jersey is getting pizza when they’re in Texas.
I have all my pizza shipped from Comet Ping Pongs in D.C. :-)
PS - Mulder’s sister was last scene there.
“Jesus Camp” should have the subtitle “The American Taliban”. It really illuminates the bigoted eschatology of this movement and their induction techniques.
I’ve spent some time with the eschatologists, and it’s certainly real. A large voting block does not plan for a better future, just ascendance over the corpses of everyone else’s ‘utter destruction’.
It’s really scary to have half the row crew happily headed for a waterfall, because they believe they can float.
Here’s an old joke:
“I want to die peacefully . . . Like my grandpa who died in his sleep . . . “
“I definitely don’t want to die screaming, like the passengers in the back of his car . . .”

Thanks for the comments to bring this to my attention. Good watch. Crazy stuff but you can feel how it is taking place today.
Season 2 starts Sunday night the 15th. How ironic too, I’m going to Tulsa Sunday to see my brother.
great season two, but apparently we’re supposed to have two more episodes so here’s hoping someone uploads them soon. and thanks to whomever for putting up the links that work.
super interesting doc with lee fang from the intercept, by Tonje Hessen Schei, really well put together, on religious fundamentalist influence in the us military and on so called ‘para-church’ organisations and these hardcore crusaders in the upper echelons, on power brokers and belief.
kinda reminds me of heavens gate, like they believe in the ending so they’re gonna make that happen

Mental health is such a cruel illness and it tortured every last member of this poor family.
A great watch !

This was really bad. The story made absolutely no sense.
The main bad guy in this is a victim. He was brought here from another dimension and parts of his DNA were tore out of him and injected into other people. All against his will. He doesn’t go around killing any “innocent” people. Only people that have parts of him inside them. Which he has to have to go back to his dimension. Yet this movie makes it seem like he is completely in the wrong and a terrible monster. I’m so confused.
Wow what a watch! I loved it lol (@ brain that wouldnt die)
Thank you for the recommendation!
I always have to laugh at the “technology” in those days though…it cracks me up ! What they could do with an old shoe box and a few clock dials was amazing lol Sometimes even better than the modern-day cga visuals.
I’m so glad you liked it!
Not a black and white, but this is another one of my favourites. I didn’t appreciate the comedy back then though cuz I was too scared.😂 🐔 Bawk!

Vincent Price has always been my all time favourite horror actor.

I am almost done with this episode and I just want to say to those that are triggered by child S.A be warned it is very triggering

This show is STR8 fire. Samuel L Jackson and Kevin Hart are killing it. Should be one of the top watched shows on here yall are SLACKIN lol. (tbh I only heard abt it cuz of the late show interview).
Well, this was “interesting”. The movie sure is different with that annoying grandma switching between a cartoon or caricature and satans spawn of evil. Its a weird dark comedy with horror elements with a weird tone. Some parts of grandma worked but often it seemed way over the top… and i don’t mean the disgusting elements but rather the overacting and the often undecipherable accent. Use of music underlined the funny bone of the directors. Its OK but needed some polishing on the story. Someone should add comedy to the description because thriller/horror definitly does not describe this movie right.
Season 2 was meant to be six episodes. Does anyone know if the last two are still to come or was it shortened to only four??
your right there are supposed to be two more episodes but i’m reading conflicing stuff on the net that says this was supposed to have six episodes and others saying four episodes. if i find a clear answer will let you know.
It’s so annoying that shows leave off on a cliff hanger. From what Ive read from multiple sites, which could be wrong, most likely this won’t get a second season because of low audience and critic scores. Hope I’m wrong.id definitely watch a second season of this.
really? I’m surprised by that because apparently its gotten a 90 percent approval rating on rotten tomatoes. I was sort of hoping this would be a miniseries and as you said the fact it ended on a cliffhanger like that means I really hope there’s a second but final season. the UK does great at miniseries or having tv shows which don’t go on for more then 12 or 20 years unlike the US but hoping if there is a second season it neatly wraps up everything and dosen’t go overboard.
Farewell to the three legends in this final special. They’re each doing independent shows, but they will always be pure magic when together. Top Gear / Grand Tour should go down as one of the best shows of our generation, even if you could care less about the cars…It’s about these three idiots.
A poignant and well documented accounting without being voyeuristic in content. This is something that happens too much with children of adoption and/or foster care. A must watch.
Thanks to the guys for… what is it now? 22years??? seen everything from Top Gear to Grand Tent to Grand tour and loved all of it… till think Top Gear was the best, but the adventures on the Grand tour have been great as well….. May i be a sentimental sod and pink away a tear? I dont care if i may or not.. i will anyway….
I bet the actors have fun doing this show. I don’t know Greek mythology well, so i think i miss some of the more subtle humor.
It was very controversial when it came out, but times were simpler then. No internet, no violent video games, no gangsta rap. People were shocked by violence in movies and on t.v. I still don’t like it, which is why I can’t watch true crime. Fictional stuff is not so bad, because it’s not real. Back then on TV, when people got shot, they didn’t even bleed. LOL Westerns were interesting.
Have you ever read Lonesome Dove? For a book, the violence was pretty well done and well described. Another western that needs to be remade, and well.
I like a good Halloween story. I think this was made for TV. Started out kinda cringy, but I kept watching and it turned out okay.
An insult to the original movie.
