im hooked

Regine 5 points 9 months ago.

I love those series….but….i think that Emma d’Arcy and most of the actors dont have the charisma that Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington had….

Jack Reacher 6 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

Its gonna be phenomenal ,you know it.

redefender 3 points 6 months ago.

GRRM recent Blog post slightly satisfying for 3rd season

biker_71 3 points 2 years ago.

damn a 2 year wait for the next season :(

booger 4 points 2 years ago. 3/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

Just finished the season ending 10th episode and I can’t wait for the next episode, problem is, that none of the other eps. made me feel this way.
The 1st 5 eps. were ok and even started to become interesting but suffered from too much……. pageantry, I guess. Long slow scenes where folks paraded around in exotic finery or sat around talking about how important they are etc; with an occasional fit of murderous rage thrown in which continued into the rest.
After everything is all said and done, I just don’t care enough about any of the characters to want a second season, honestly how is anyone supposed to care what happens to a bunch of self absorbed, incestuous, homicidal lech’s?

AmieWarren 4 points 9 months ago. 5/5 stars.

I never watched GOT. I think I’m going to start with this, and then watch it.

CollideDuhScope 3 points 9 months ago. 5/5 stars.

It takes quite a bit to do dig it.. I get your reservations
it’s well worth it!

AmieWarren 3 points 9 months ago*. 5/5 stars.

I didn’t watch it because I was told it was a lot of blood and gore. I just don’t like that sort of show. I couldn’t even get all the way through Braveheart. There was a movie in the 70s called Soldier Blue and it started out with soldiers riding into a Native American village and massacreing them. There was one scene about five minutes in where a soldier rode up to a small boy and shot him in the head. I, and about half the theater, got up and left.

Redrobotmonkey 2 points 6 months ago.

I have the movie and have been contemplating watching it. Now I def will. Thanks.

AmieWarren 2 points 6 months ago*. 5/5 stars.

It was very controversial when it came out, but times were simpler then. No internet, no violent video games, no gangsta rap. People were shocked by violence in movies and on t.v. I still don’t like it, which is why I can’t watch true crime. Fictional stuff is not so bad, because it’s not real. Back then on TV, when people got shot, they didn’t even bleed. LOL Westerns were interesting.

Redrobotmonkey 1 points 6 months ago.

Have you ever read Lonesome Dove? For a book, the violence was pretty well done and well described. Another western that needs to be remade, and well.

ibjonnyc 2 points 9 months ago.

Yes watch this 1st. It is a prelude of sorts to GOT, the most watched HBO series ever which is why this show and the ones to come are being created.

SpontaneousOrder 1 points 6 months ago.

GOT is actually better, so have fun.

greyfur 0 points 9 months ago. 5/5 stars.

I would strongly suggest starting here. I tried to watch GOT, never even finished the first season, was bored to tears. And now, all things considered, from what people are saying on how it finished, I’m glad I only went that far. With this, I was pretty much hooked right from the first episode or two. Whole different animal.

Much, much better show, but then that’s my opinion, and you know what they say about those.

AngelaJH 5 points 9 months ago.

Interesting. I’ve had the opposite experience. I was hooked on GOT after the first couple of episodes, but I had a lot of trouble getting into this one when I started to watch the first season. I stopped and didn’t go back until just last week, and now I am more into it. I think for me, it has a lot to with just the mood I am in when I watch this type of show. It can take a lot of concentration when you start a series like this to really understand what is going on and who is who. If I am not in the right headspace to put the attention needed into watching it from the beginning, I lose interest by the second or third episode!

greyfur 2 points 9 months ago. 5/5 stars.

I started to watch GOT because of the author. I grew up on Science Fiction, then later kind of grew into more of a swords and sorcery I guess you could call it kind of person, or maybe ‘Fantasy’ would be a more apt description, as my local libraries that I could get to growing up ran out of all the good Science Fiction books (I read them all).

That being said, I read a lot of the stuff back in the day, no other specific authors come to mind off the top (just woke up, still trying to caffeinate), but if it’s any consolation, I never cared for Anne McCaffrey’s Pern series either. I do remember going through like 6 episodes it was of GOT trying to like it, as everybody else was really liking it, but just couldn’t see what everybody else saw in it, but with this, man, right away it had me.

But yeah, I can see how with some people mood might have something to do with how a show will hit you just right…or not.

There was one, can’t remember the author, or the series of books, was several as I recall, was pretty popular back in the day, would make a great series now the way they can do the CGI, was about a kid, medieval times, and there was this big tapestry hanging on this wall, and he got transported into the tapestry. There was also this spider on the tapestry, and the kid and the spider became friends, and teamed up, to get back out of the tapestry. As I recall, there was something they needed to get in order to do so. Something the kid went into there to get in the first place.

Was a VERY good book, with a few that came after it. A lot could be done with that today.

random000 3 points 9 months ago*. 5/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

You remind us of our brother, who got us into every fantastic literary genre that fed our imaginations. Between him, our aunt & sister, we never lacked for good reading. Except he was a Scottish orange bearded naval electrician & guardian of all kitty-cats everywhere.

greyfur 2 points 9 months ago. 5/5 stars.

I like him already! I’m a cat lover (like dogs as well, but have always had cats, have always had small apartments in places where having the kind of dog I would like was just a non starter), and had two from kittens all the way to the end. One is my name here. Damn, I miss that cat.

Am house sitting one right now, has been 8 months, girl cat, am mostly used to boys, this is the first female, friend of mine wound up living in his car, and there is nothing affordable anyplace around here, though he’s working his backside off. Just can’t find anything. She’s a good cat though, and we get along really well.

I think I’m kind of like a grand parent with the grand kids, and I spoil her rotten. She won’t touch people food (unlike the boys, they would eat anything) so when I eat, she gets a snack, I get a snack, she gets a snack, expects it now, so she gets it. She’s pretty much at the point she sees me getting close to her she just gives me this look and just goes belly up, like ‘rub me’. And she gets rubbed…

Pretty sure I’m owned at this point..🤣

random000 3 points 9 months ago. 5/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

That’s very nice. Definitely know what it’s like to live in tiny places & be forbidden the simple companionship of any animal, so it’s a good thing you opened your door. Our brother was a really great guy. Even his dog had two of his own cats. He was blind, so the cats were literally seeing-eye cats, walking on each side of him always.

greyfur 2 points 9 months ago. 5/5 stars.

Yup, I can see that. Cat’s are cool like that, and can be very protective. I read a story about a hospital that had a cat, stayed in this one wing, and it knew somehow when someone was going to die, and it would jump up on that persons bed and would stay with him/her, and would refuse to leave, would just stay there with them, and purr. Think it was trying to comfort them.

People at the hospital always knew who was next to go on account of the cat, but they have no idea how the cat knew who was going to be next, but the cat was always right. Cat’s are amazing…

random000 3 points 9 months ago*. 5/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

Oh yeah, that was Oscar. Saw a report on that. Not a reaper cat, but certainly a guiding comfort cat that had a unique role. We had a cat that knew when epileptic seizures were going to happen, which was extremely good since it helped avoid head injuries, bad falls & so on when one was alone.

Princess Rhaenys Targaryen had a very opposite cat named after the primary dragon that conquered all of Westeros, Aegon’s dragon Balerion, known also as the Black Dread, who lived a long time. Her dad King Viserys claimed the dragon when she was little at the time she got the kitten, and she would pretend he was the famous dragon. Apparently, The Red Keep had a line of cats descended from him for hundreds of years.

greyfur 2 points 9 months ago. 5/5 stars.

Wow! That’s wicked cool! I watched a video on YouTube a couple days ago about cats, guy was actually pretty funny to listen to, clearly a cat guy, but he really knew his stuff, and had a lot of information about cats, along with some really great clips, but there was some interesting facts about a cats purr.

Seems like they have some different frequencies that they can purr at, and some can actually help people with their blood pressure, others can lure (for real!) people into petting them and paying attention to them. It hits a certain area in peoples brains that just attracts most people to them.

Also, when people bond well with their cats, the cat can become sensitive to their medical problems even before the people know they have them. The guy even gave several instances of it happening. One that I remember was a rescue cat, this lady took a cat home that was a stray that wasn’t doing too well, and her husband was cool with it, and he bonded to her. A couple years later, he was on her chest and was on one side, sniffing and pawing, and refused to leave.

Anyway, it was right after that she noticed that she had a small lump on her breast that she had not noticed, but the cat knew it was there, and she went to the doctor, and got it dealt with in time, before it could become a problem. Guess the cat paid her back for taking him in.

The coolness of cats can not be overstated!

random000 3 points 9 months ago*. 5/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

That is indeed rather nifty. Cancer sniffing animals are a real thing! Sound therapy is also a real thing, which makes cats unique in that regard. Everything is a frequency, so any two things that are the same frequency will resonate with each other. Can always tell when the guitars are tuned well when they make the snare drum hum along. Going Om is a good documentary about sound and health. Always love going to sleep with my cats as it is a very peaceful experience to listen to them as I go into LaLaLand. Binaural sound is great.

NoelCoyotebleu 2 points 6 months ago.

Have you ever read William Morris, specifically, The Well at the World’s End?
HIGHLY RECCOMENDED! Almost every fantasy writer Tolkien and the rest, were inspired by this incredible human.

greyfur 2 points 6 months ago. 5/5 stars.

No, I have not, and further, to my embarrassment, I have not even heard of him. I will look him up now, but truth be told I’m so inundated with books right now That I doubt that I will have time to finish the ones I have to read before I’m dead without adding more to them. Unless of course I’m not allowed to die before I read them all…

greyfur 2 points 6 months ago. 5/5 stars.

I just looked the guy up, seems he wrote an awesome 1,444 books, and read the synopsis for the one you mentioned, and it looks like it would make for a great movie, if they were to ever make it true to the book.

Laura-GCHQ 5 points 3 years ago.

I hope they don’t manage to eff this one up too. I’m yet to recover from the cataclysm of biblical proportions that’s now known as GOT Season 8.

THEDEVIANTONE -2 points 1 year ago.

no worries there HBO never cancels series and always delivers now fox is the worst when it comes to cancelling amazing shows unless there politically correct then they let them run for yrs😉😊

Laura-GCHQ 2 points 1 year ago.

About HBO never cancelling any shows, well “The Nevers” would beg to differ… Anyways, as regards “The House of Dragons”, the jury is still out on this one. I’m particularly concerned about it being cancelled, i was just a bit worried i might get really invested in it and then watch in become worse than GOT at the end…

THEDEVIANTONE 2 points 1 year ago.

hi nice to meet you…. ok so were do i start….the reason The Nevers got cancelled was of the merger between HBO and warner bros /Disney and stated that because of the first six episodes viewing stats it was too expensive to carry on ….yes i know a multi billion pound company ie Disney. Warner Bros found it too expensive…… as for The House of Dragon it will air this summer early season too and we will have a few more seasons also so no worries there… also the reason they cancel awesome shows is that’s how they make there money, its complicated but its to do with views and the actors demanding more money when the show rockets, the company gets the royalties

Odie 5 points 9 months ago*.

HBO Cancells shows all the time, from Bored to Death to Raised by Wolves, I hate this garabage rhetoric that politically correct shows are the only shows that last now a days. I love offensive TV/movies and there is no shortage of it at all.

BasedScotsman 0 points 9 months ago.

No one is saying pc shows are the only one’s that last, even though you have Dr Who, Rings of Power and Velma that say otherwise with the worst viewing figures than the shows you’ve mentioned and all got a 2nd season.
“I love offensive TV/movies and there is no shortage of it at all.”
Name me a couple of these offensive movies from the last 5 years. Because I can’t find them. Actually I’ll be more specific, name me a Comedy in the last 5 years that was “offensive”.

grasshopper rex 1 points 9 months ago.

Someone in this comment thread made that very claim. I wouldn’t say getting a second season defines a show as one that lasts. As to “offensive”, that’s subjective. Liberals and conservatives spend a lot of time and energy being offended these days.

BasedScotsman 1 points 9 months ago.

I agree with most of what you have said, but let’s be real we wouldn’t be able to make movies like Tropic Thunder or White chicks today.

hellsingfan01 1 points 9 months ago.

Karen a movie that was so bad it’s should be a comedy and so bad it is offensive also it was odd that you specified a select genre.

Euringer 3 points 9 months ago.

Post covid certain genres have suffered heavily (high budget horror, teen comedy, gross out comedy) so it’s a very easy way to put one’s finger on the scale in the discussion.

grasshopper rex 1 points 9 months ago.

The strikes also had a huge impact on how much material was created recently.

hellsingfan01 1 points 9 months ago.

Yeah but to openly name just one genre when there are quite a few others that have released bad films as well just seems weird.

BasedScotsman 2 points 9 months ago.

I choose the genre because it’s my favourite genre, no other reason.

hellsingfan01 1 points 9 months ago.

Fair enough but there are other bad films and TV shows from the genres

Sassinak 2 points 8 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Man, I love battles, and we got 2!

errrwhocares 2 points 2 years ago. 5/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

I watched it twice.. really good. Did I hear somewhere that she marries her uncle?

SpontaneousOrder 2 points 6 months ago*.

A lot of the links are failing. On season 2 especially. I have had to look elsewhere for reliable links. It is… regrettable.

Odie 2 points 9 months ago.

Is this show worth watching? I enjoyed Game of Thrones but I gave up on this after an episode or two when it first came out.

elb11 1 points 8 months ago. 3/5 stars.

I TOTALLY LOVED GOT, that being said, this one not so much. I barely made it through the 1st season and tried very hard to get into this 2nd season, but I’m done with it, if possible this 2nd season is more boring than the 1st. I can’t even listen to it as background noise because it just is sooo ssllooowww, boring and dragging IMO. I never read the books and wasn’t too sure I would like GOT because its just not my normal wheelhouse but it became my FAVE quickly and I couldn’t wait for each next epi, but I almost dread each next epi on this one until I finally had enough. You won’t know until you try it, everyone is different on what they like or don’t. Good luck if you try it out.

grasshopper rex 1 points 2 years ago.

There is a special out there. Search either House of the Dragon Premiere Special or s01e100.

elb11 1 points 2 years ago. 3/5 stars.

Its on the best series site as season 1 epi 100, but I found a listing on here “The House That Dragons Built” (2022) that has 10 epis, is it the same thing as the special or something else all together? The description says this…
“HBO takes viewers behind the scenes of House of the Dragon. Each episode showcases everything from set construction and digital effects to cast interviews and producer insight.”
Looks interesting either way, but its also on best series.

grasshopper rex 1 points 2 years ago.

That’s a ‘making of’for each episode.

cheeseburger 1 points 1 year ago.

random000 1 points 9 months ago*. 5/5 stars.

There’s a great Dr. Demento type song found on Tyrone Kahn’s Kahnman’s Comedy Corner about Martin having to write furiously just to keep up with the show. Uses the kick booty show theme. It’s great. (Hall & Storm’s Write Like The Wind)

cheeseburger 1 points 1 year ago.

Piglet 0 points 1 month ago.

I have yet to watch this series and at some point, I might watch it. James Norton will be joining the cast in season 3 which doesn’t have a release date yet. I took note of him when he was in Grantchester and McMafia. He can play the good guy very well and can pull of the despicable character too.

Gmsbulls88 -1 points 9 months ago.

where is the action only bullshit same like last time with the dragons
