Shōgun, set in feudal Japan, charts the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai: John Blackthorne, a risk-taking English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him; Lord Toranaga, a shrewd, powerful daimyo, at odds with his own dangerous, political rivals; and Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, who must prove her value and allegiance.

It would be nice if folks could comment on the show instead of arguing about inconsequential crap. That’s why comment sections keep getting disabled.
I would have to agree. Arguing about erroneous bull-crap is pretty lame. This show is actually pretty damn amazing. FX is pretty good when it comes to putting out new series. This show is very impressive and will only get better with time. First TV show I could say in over a year that I could attach that opinion too. Well scripted and the acting is impeccable.
Lol my comment got deleted. I was making a joke jeez. Guess it’s hard to see sarcasm in text ah well I thought it was funny
It’s basically impossible, via text. ☮️
most defo going to watch this
Enjoying this Japanese perspective of the excellent Clavell novel (which he based on the historic Tokugawa Ieyasu). While watching I’m constantly trying to recognize familiar locations. The majority of filming took place in Port Moody and Ucluelet, British Columbia… :}
An interesting mini doc about this series may be of interest…

I’m near Victoria. It’s always fun catching local spots, but it’s getting so common that it’s not even surprising anymore. We basically live in Hollywood now. Excited to see how they;re used in Shogun tho, starting now.

Our 51st state. JK, please don’t hit me.
Well that would be about 63 states (50 + 10 provinces and 3 territories)… ;)
Maybe that’s why King Charlie (Canada’s head of state) invited him for a visit? lol

lol hilarious, threatening to invade our country, good one haha. Actually we are not taking it lightly at all. We are terrified for our safety and preparing for invasion. And Americans just laughing.
If you looked at my avatar, you would see where I stand. And yes, you have to be able to find the humor in absurd situations. And no, it isn’t actually going to happen. Look at how much of the nonsense has already been blocked or rolled back. Hell, we got less than 500 miles of that promised border wall with Mexico, and most of that was replacement for old structures already in place. Don’t let the fearmongering get to you. Saner heads will prevail in the end. Peace, my neighbor. :)
wish it wasn’t on fx .. i just want to binge this lol
Coming February 2024 on Hulu and FX
Check out what you unearthed! Pretty nice Miss A!
Amazing. This is what all television should be!
I remember the one from the ‘80s
This show looks incredible. Someone pls explain to me why people are already hate voting on this show before it even releases…? Just disable the vote system on here at this point.
can’t say for certain, but it could be accidental. i did it once and there’s no way to take it back. or there could any number of stupid reasons some folks judge something without having seen it.
Just a week after it was reported that Hiroyuki Sanada would return for another Shōgun season, FX and Hulu announced they are developing two new seasons of the acclaimed drama.
In an announcement on Thursday, FX revealed that it would be teaming up with the estate of author James Clavell — who wrote the original Shōgun novel in 1975 — to extend the story into two additional seasons. Shogun Seasons 2 and 3 are both currently in development, and a writers room is being assembled. Woohoo!
I’m conflicted on this.
I get it. It was the perfect ending to a perfect story.
Can’t wait for the next episode XD
good show but not liking Cosmos impression of Tom Hardy, it’s kind of annoying.
I thought he sounded more like Richard Burton.
The comments got my attention, as I had not heard of this series. Starting now, I am giving it a try. I remember Hiroyuki Sanada from Helix and thought he did well there. So thanks all for even the nonsense comments which got my attention.
He’s very handsome, too.
Yup and the first episode was great. :)
Quality story and character-driven show. Will watch again.
she playes so well like in the monarch legacy of monsters
There is spectacular scenery of Japan and some really good parts in this series. The lead actress carried the show. I just really didn’t care for the plot overall and got bored several times. Might have liked it more if it hadn’t been so dark and I didn’t have to read subs.
A great show a lot of emotion tied up in it.
Hiroyuki Sanada is one of my top 10 favorite actors and he’s getting a lot of great roles, this one too
Seasons 2 & 3 are in the works! Fantastic news for this fantastic show

Loved it
Best series I’ve watched in a while, I’m tough to please.
Artful as ever, typically Japanese, heart wrenchingly poetic with a decent amount of action too.
Any links have English subtitles for aisan words?
So after all the comments - which made me laugh…is it worth watching? I’m a nuttah for Asian movies and series !
You are in for a treat then.
Well after you watch it you can tell us. Because I was looking to see if this was worth watching also.
LOL omg now I’m scared…this sounds like a trap !
Damn almost tricked you lol. I actually just finished the first episode was really good. So I think it’s worth a watch.
lol So cute ! …Ima eat it up over the weekend….thank you <3
Just finished the season and it was really good, up to a point. Roughly half way through, the show starts to really drag on, a lot of the things that happen seem rather pointless, and it’s hard to see if anyone has any idea what they’re actually doing. Then the show just kind of peters out to an end. Have to say, I was kind of disappointed. I think it would have been better if it was cut down to 8, or even 6 episodes.
Phenomenal show! Can’t wait for season 2…. There is season 2, right? If not then…wtf is this world coming to??
