AT first I almost thought it was a copy of Counterpart. the opening scene and credits are so similar
While watching this show I think constantly of Counterpart as it evokes the same double-live/doppelganger plot and a similar sense of thrill with the idea that you want to know what happens when the two sides “meet.” I am still upset they canceled Counterpart - it was brilliant! While they did come to a “believable” ending so much more could have continued to be explored. I love the minimalism in this show. The set design is fabulous. Patricia Arquette’s creation of her character, as always, is all-in, she’s never the same person twice. She changes the modulation of her voice and her physicality - adore her!
very similar, style production wise.. follows the standard plot progression rather well.. odd thing, mysterious message, martyr, conspiracy, and then just twist away..lol … the bits at the end of the last episode would have been predictable, if one wasnt so caughtup in the story… Very well done show.. looking foward to see where it all goes..
Counterpart, the Prisoner, Utopia. The trippy retro multi-era 60s-70s-80s set design reminds me of Loki.
Really enjoying this. I thought it was going to be more lighthearted like some other similar shows like Upload but it’s setting up a very creepy vibe. It’s a bit like a Twilight Zone version of Office Space, but I’m only two episodes in. Good mystery.
Watched the 2nd epi & was marvelling at the production & sound design. The music & sound effects really create such a creepy tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s so well done. Loving the suspense thriller vibe causing one to wonder what really is going on here. Highly recommended.
I have to say the whole premise of this is kinda frightening if one thinks about it. Tbh it’s only the thoughts of my ‘outy’ life that gets me through the day of my ‘inny’ life. It really is a good show.
Yeah, it would be a BIG suck. I don’t think anyone could last very long there. If you didn’t have ANY memory of any life out of the office it wd feel like you were working that soul sucking job 24/7, nonstop forever.
After 3 months shy of 3 years this brilliant show is finally back w/it’s 2nd season starting 1/17/25. So looking forward to it!
Yes!! I was just thinking about this series the last 3-4 days! It’s brilliant!
Quite brilliant.
It was (and will be) an intriguing and captivating watch.
Cannot wait for this to come out! 3 weeks to go!!!
I think I am broken. I saw one of my reactors I am subbed to watching this. I binged it before I went back for their reaction. I found it to be a compelling watch, but it was not the story or the actors, but it was complete lack of information that made me watch it all in one go. This is just me, but the writers are going to need on hell of a story to save this show for me.
I underestimated this show big time. Kept putting it off watching but after a few epis in, I was hooked. That last episode tho, whaaaaaaaa?!?!
Something new on the horizon. Looks interesting.
I’ve never seen anything like this! Slow start, having to set up the extremely different subject matter, but it gets intriguing and then becomes the very definition of the thriller genre. If you like off-the-beaten-path thrillers, you’ve got to watch this!
a couple weeks to go fer season 2, time to binge the last season, so its fresh in me mind .. whoo hoo
ohh damn, i will never recommend great movies like The Lighthouse, Green Knight, No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Midsommar, Lamb, Tenet, Hereditary, Annihilation, The Witch, The Northman to you.
See me 2 cents below. Midsommar, Hereditary, Lighthouse…,etc.,…excellent references. Have yOu seen the original Martyrs by Laugier? STUNNING. Bedraggled Severance wouldn’t even rank in contrast.
Now THIS is the stuff multiple Emmys are passed out to.
Trippy show. Not bad. Unsure if I’m going to keep watching it depends on how it goes
Season 2 is here!!
I can dig it. The question is… Would you sign up for the severance program? I am on the fence. I kinda like the idea.
Allegorically it’s us in this world
I binged the whole thing last night.. well worth the time.. i just couldnt stop watching..lol
New season soon I think hopefully
One commenter said it had a creepy vibe, will Christopher Walken is probably why it has a creepy vibe. He has always given me the hibbie jibbes even way back in the 1970’s. I’ve not watched much of his work and I think I shall pass on this one too. Oh, he was on the yacht when Natalie Woods fell overboard and drowned….you can make your own conclusions……did her husband Robert Wagoner throw her overboard or did the creepy Walken do it…….
Good point. I think they were both involved. Sadly it’ll never be known. 🤷♀️
Walken’s a demi-god.
He is so amazing to watch. I almost passed on this until I saw he was in it. . . and Arquette is another special one. The show is creepy as hell, nail biting different. Makes my claustrophobia bother me a bit tho.
That’s a great descriptor for it, claustrophobic but in the best way possible.
Agreed, Alien. (BTW I accidentally deleted my previous comment when I meant to edit it lol).
Piglet you’re missing out if you’re passing on this just because of your Walken bias. He’s not in this that much & there are plenty of other characters that are as creepy or more so than his character. But to each their own.
Accidents do happen, especially while partying on a boat using alcohol/substances. Easy to fall off & drown if you’re not careful.
It started off interesting.. now it’s 😴
The suspension of disbelief is far too challenging in this attempt at implausible sc-fi noir (?).
Anybody stupid enough to sell 1/2 their brain to any corporation deserves their lot. I dunno if I can keep watching this dud to realize all the intricacies of these BOTTOM LINE STUPID PROTAGONISTS. This is like a means test to the end of who is most like a sheep in a flock of corporate prostitution. The entire premise is flimsy and hastily subtexted. There are plenty who would reign in ell rather than serve in heaven. This depiction is one of the less interesting of the genre. This is like those Missing hbo with Justin (Aniston ex?). Asinine thesis that went nowhere in philosophical dead ends and very soon subsequently cancelled . Even Patricia Arquette can’t save this one.
Thank you. Your review made me want to check it out further to see what you’re going on about. I ended up loving it & getting hooked on the 1st epi. It’s truly brilliant & found myself laughing at the black humor at various points throughout. The acting is just stellar & I was all in from watching the trailer alone. So thank you for your point of view that motivated me to find out for myself if it was worth my time. It very well is worth it.
People spend lots of money to escape their miserable existences. To have your sorrow and pain erased for 8 hours a day AND get paid for it? Lots of people would sign up for that. Plenty of mindnumbing, soul crushing jobs that folks would love to forget about when they are off work as well. Sounds like the best of both worlds to me.
First of all, you’re wrong; People have proven time and time again that they ARE that stupid. Humans are constantly doing things that go directly against their own interests. The other stuff you said… I don’t really see how any of it has to do with whether or not someone would want to watch a FICTIONAL tv show about it. Leave the weird religious shit out of it, this is tv show and it’s not real. You’re allowed to be entertained by things you don’t “agree” with in real life. That’s why it’s fiction.
Second, I imagine you’re referencing Leftovers with that dig… All I can say is, you basically just admitted that you didn’t watch even close to the entirety of that show without saying it. I’d bet just about anything that you watched MAYBE one season and gave up. If that. And now you’re making assumptions about how you think it probably ended, and couldn’t be more wrong.
Leftovers was not cancelled. It doesn’t “go nowhere,” and there are no “dead ends.” In fact, that’s what makes it one of the best shows ever. It is an entire self-contained (and brilliant) story that has a beginning, a middle and an end. It doesn’t shamble on with no point and overstay it’s welcome like Lost (a show the creator of Leftovers also wrote on). The actual “event” that you learn about in probably the only one or two episodes you actually watched, is actually explained in the end and not just left ambiguous or cancelled with no explanation.
But You couldn’t be bothered to watch it so you just assumed. And you were very wrong. Funny how that works.
