At 72, the Dude abides… I’d watch this just for Jeff, and I’ve enjoyed it so far. The Rotties are 😎, too. Jeff has stayed married to his - one and only, wife. I like that. He’s in remission from lymphoma, I hope he stays healthy for many more years to come… 😊
They are both doing fantastic work. If you’re middle aged or older, this is coming from a familiar place, which is a very different perspective than typical thrillers. Age is essentially a main character in the show. It makes sense that’s uninteresting / a turnoff for different audiences.
Totally spot on. Appealing to the long living. Who knew I’d still be kicking around at this age!? lol Love his dogs
Watching Bridges and Lithgow together is simply legendary. I know for some this seems too slow and deep, but it is exactly what it needs to be, and reminds me of older spy dramas. The subtleties keep me glued watching these pros work their craft, and as mentioned by others, including age as story device.
P.S., who wants to see Gary Oldman show up as his character from Slow Horses! The three of these cold war relics sitting around having a verbal (and in some moments, flatulent) go at each other would be worth any price of admission.
Well said. These guys are great, and I believe often underestimated actors. Especially Lithgow, he’s really excellent, and has done some really great work over the years, and has often not got the kudos that he should have gotten for the work he has done.
Yes, I agree. Lithgow has been sorely underrated.
Did you ever watch Dexter? Can’t remember what season it was, but he was in one of those, was about the best season ever, he played a serial killer that was Dexter’s nemesis, did a fantastic job.
@greyfur I literally just finished that season, (I’m behind times and just found this show lol), (was even more surprised to see it has a 2nd show from 2021 and again that it has a 3rd show starting this year smh lol), (after researching it before watching it I didn’t think it had THAT much of a story since only some was actual facts about a few true serial killers and the rest was made up lol, guess I was wrong because I’m definitely hooked and superfast bingeing it lol. Its really good!) but it was Season 4 in the original Dexter 2006-2013, and you are right John Lithgow was awesome in it! John Lithgow in The Old Man was good also as he usually is, Jeff Bridges was also for the most part, it was just the storyline, it dddrrruuugggg out so sssllooowww, it was painful to watch ugh, I was dutiful and watched till the end but it was just not worth is to me.
Gonna put this as a spoiler for others that might not have seen any of this, and won’t say much, as you have not finished, and have not watched the other stuff yet. The first Dexter series will kind of tick you off at the end, last season. It did that with most of the fan base, and everybody wanted a better ending then what they got.
That being said, we were all pretty happy to see a rep-boot of the show, which I watched all the way through, and while it was pretty good for the most part, there we were with that ending again. Or that was my take on it, and I don’t believe I was alone on that, but others might have different feelings on that, but thinking for the most part generally speaking, I think for the most part people would generally agree it could have had a better ending then what they left us with.
Not really sure if I’m even going to bother with the new one they are coming out with now, can’t remember the name of it, guess Dexter is graduating from High School, and Harry is still teaching him how to not get caught. May or may not be good, but they keep leaving us hanging with these endings…
Glad you liked the season with Lithgow, I think that was one of the best seasons in the whole series. As to the ‘Old Man’, for some reason, I really like that one. I don’t mind the slower pace, as long as it keeps my mind going. They manage to do that, and they keep on telling a really good story. These guys are a bit too long in the tooth for too much action anymore, but they are geared up just right for intrigue, and they are killing it with this, and just the right amount of action to make it look realistic. But that just me, and different people like different things.
Hope I didn’t spoil anything for you on Dexter, it’s still worth the ride! Peace!
Never been a fan of Jeff Bridges. John lithgow seems to be hitting his stride. It’s a wonder at his age how he still keeps going and just seems to get better. I’d say their chemistry is above average. Not really anything too special. Just 2 veterans doing what they do.
Woah woah woah! This is back too?? jeez louise I am behind TY PW like a MF’r! lol
well, this one is for sure worth checking out. Nothing you have not seen before but with good actors this get 3,5 of 5
I was just mentioning Jeff Bridges a few minutes ago and here he is in a new tv drama. Looks interesting and it airs in a couple of weeks, June 16th.
An unoriginal storyline, but maybe Bridges and Lithgow can make it work despite that.
I love the comments on this website - have found so many great shows that I wouldn’t have watched otherwise… this is one of them. Loved it. Season one left me jumping around the room, stressing that there was no episode 8… only to find that Season two is already up… Great characters, super interesting storyline… highly recommend.
Oh what! Just finished season two… raced to check if there would be a season 3 only to find that yet again, a great series that I was enjoying has been cancelled. Now I will never know what happened to Harold!! Sad :(
Nooooooo!!! Ras-a-fras-a-ras-a-fras!!! 👿 Another one bites the dust. 😞
Oj . i was so looking forward to watch this, nothing but allStars and blabla. and i waited to the right time to enjoy it and..Aarr i feel im getting Older watching this. im out- thanks but no thanks
As anticipated, cancelled. No way they would let Alia Shawkat lead the show.
Oh, freaking sad, beyond words, this had so much potential…
Pretty slow and boring at times. I sure hope it picks up. I wouldn’t continue watching, if there was something better on.
I totally agree smh :( I thought with ALL the great named actors in it that it would be a great watch, but in my boredom of waiting on that great watch my hair has grown a few inches longer and I’ve aged a few years waiting for something to happen lol! So far the dogs have been the most exciting thing happening other than the few lil fights lol. And yep there’s nothing else on so I’m a glutton for punishment I reckon lol, just 1 more epi so might as well finish it lol. The storyline is kinda weird too IMHO, I literally had to check IMDB to see who one of the characters is, and TADA its the younger version of Bridges old man character, evidently they’re doing flashback scenes without letting us know that’s what is going on, or I’m just dense and didn’t realize that lol.
Ya know what I did? At the 3nd of episode 6, I went back to season 1, and really paid attention. I wanted all the fine details, and interconnections. The puzzle pieces fit, and I’m glad I did.
its reached the point where if i like a series i hope no one else does because its defo getting cancelled if people like it :(
It pigeonholed itself. Nothing we can do about it now.
Season 1: Freakin’ awesome! This is a great new show!
Season 2: Pure crap. Total waste of time.
WTF happened?
Season 2 was a bloody disaster, nonsense conversations, through ought the whole thing that just tried to confuse a simple story . They turned the whole bloody thing into its all about FEELINGS
Agreed… Ruthless super spies shouldn’t have so many feelings. I started fast forwarding through the overshares.
