My guess would be that toxic monsters, like those portrayed here, would call their island something like that. The filmmakers probably wanted that toxicity represented in the title, but the studio feared the public backlash it would probably get given the resurgence of fundamentalism in the US right now.

Thriller and the actors were so believable that I was glad it ended the way it did. I didn’t see any promos for this one but I read the synopsis and that was what made me want to watch it but there were no hints of the twists and turns. I’m not going to give away any either, you’ll have to watch it.

I’m disappointed they didn’t have the nerve to go through with the original title. :)

There was nothing wrong with Arcadian. As a matter of fact, it was a good movie. Nic wasn’t the focus of the movie, the younger cast was, and that is a good thing. He was in it to help them, not to take over the film.

grasshopper rex 2 points 3 months ago.

Obviously, that’s an opinion I don’t share.

the characters feel poorly developed and im finding it hard to care about them. the dialogue feels hokey, particularly between hal and maggie and her whole ‘dont, we cant be together even though i want to due to my damaged self image’ schtick. and im not too enraptured during the combat scenes which are quite a lot of the show but maybe thats a me problem?

Welcome to Me (2015)
BubbaPharm.com 1 points 3 months ago*.

It’s a semi-dark and awkward comedy that actually shows the downfalls of mental illness, without being super sad. It left me feeling good.

It had somewhat of a Wes Anderson vibe with the oddity, so it’s humor is for people who enjoy that off-center, awkward pause genre.

That’s a unique taste, but you should know by minute 30 if it’s for you. That’s when I was fully engaged with what weird thing Kirstin Wiig was going to do next.

I like how Maika Monroe is setting herself up as the queen of horror right now. This is a good thriller with some interesting twists but I think it tries too hard to be creepy.

Unlike most here I wasn’t as taken by this. My interest waned somewhere in the middle, it’s a fairly slow burn. Cage as usual is great, but his performance aside I thought it was pretty average, definitely not a repeat watch for me!

The Crow (2024)

someone had mistakenly left a real bullet tip lodged in the barrel of the gun

~Dime~ 3 points 3 months ago.

No one left a real bullet in the gun. Lee was shot in the abdomen with a piece of a dummy bullet left in the gun’s barrel from an earlier scene. The blank cartridge (Which was not made properly, and had a fragment left inside of it) fired the fragment with the force of a real bullet, striking Lee from about 15 feet away. Where he was shot, there was no saving him sadly. Also. Saying that ‘No one was killed in this manner this time’ is truly in bad taste.

Mean Girls (2024)

ngl the worst moments were the non musical parts because then it was being too serious.
The issue is if you remove the comedy of the og film and the whimsy of the musical in this, you’re left with an angsty coming of age film with everyone just being shitty and honestly, there’s enough of those movies.

Lady in the Lake (2024)

This episode exposed what a lot of women went through during the 1960’s. It was 50 years ago this month that women could open a bank account without a man’s signature, they could get a credit card without a man’s signature. These 2 things have not popped up yet in this episode yet. Women got the right to vote in 1920 which was huge, but had they had to wait another 54 years to open a bank account. Women’s rights have come a long long way and some of the ground work for women’s rights started during this tumultuous decade.

PacificLilly 1 points 3 months ago.

50 years ago….. just boggles my mind whenever I think about it. I was born into a world where these things seemed, at least to my little kid self, timeless. Women’s rights are a very new development in a much longer history. Just boggles my mind.

The show was great, btw. I binged it. Its really, really well done.

Just binged watched this for the first time. It went off track sometimes and got just weird, with no explanations of what happened to some people. Seasons 1 & 2 were good, season 3 not so great with the Sparrows. I think Robert Sheehan’s performance as Klaus was underrated. I’m glad they wrote Vanya’s transition to Viktor into the script instead of just replacing the character. The ending was not what I wanted, but it was a complete ending, with no chance of redos or spinoffs. I really wanted Five and Lila to go back to their timeline and live happily ever after, but alas, it was not meant to be. Overall, it was a great show, and well worth watching every episode.

I think giving this a score of 3/5 is generous. In my opinion the first one was so much better. There was a sense of mystery and passion in the first one that this version just does not have. This Eric was a boy, the Eric in the first film was a man. The original Eric oozed mystery, power and passion; this Eric seemed to need so much motivation just to get the audience to believe he was doing it for love. And this movie lacked the emotional intensity of the first one, and instead, opted for lots of blood/guts/gore to impress the audience. I could make so many more comparisons; it just boils down to this movie being good, but it was not nearly as good as the original.

The first episode is what you would expect from a billion dollar industry run by cartels before legalization. I have to wonder if the same cartels will bring in some seeds and start growing coke instead. Most people, even the cops will not likely know what it is. Taking that much money out of certain peoples hands will make them eventually react in uncertain ways.

New western thriller out of Canada starring some familiar faces. Corin Nemec, who played Jonas Quinn from Stargate SG-1 and Tom Hopper, who played Luther Hargreeves aka Number 1 from The Umbrella Academy and the lovely Heather Graham from, well, a lot of things. Sounds interesting.
Except for Elliot Page and Colm Feore, I’ve never seen Umbrella Academy kids in anything else.

This is a little fun fact I found on IMDB, Neon has set up a dedicated phone number you can call to have a little chat with “The Man Downstairs,” who happens to be a serial killer dubbed Longlegs. He’s played by Nicolas Cage in the upcoming movie, and dialing the number will result in a deeply unsettling pre-recorded message from Cage’s latest character. The number is 458.666.4355. Dial if you dare…

Wow, I really enjoyed this movie. Really great comedic timing and callbacks. Everything from the story to the sub-story and sub-sub-story reminded me of all the reasons I wanted to go into entertainment. I give it a 5. 5 is reserved for “would rewatch anytime someone asks or when it happens to be on at 2am.”

If you like this movie even a bit, go back and watch F/X and F/X2 (skip the awful tv show) F/X2 was so good in theaters that it got a 9yr old kid to go to film school and join that crazy world.
