Well, that was very different and I’ll watch a couple more episodes then decide if I want to continue. I’m wondering why the costume department put her in really bright colors. And why are the nurses wearing turquoise uniforms? Seems rather odd for the time period because nurses always worn white uniforms. And they wore white stockings too and white caps. Judy Davis (from the Aussie crime drama Mystery Road) portrays Nurse Bucket; I fear she might be the next to go? And you can always count on Amanda Plummer to play a whacky character but she did inherit her good acting chops from her father.
I loved it ~ and want more! I hope there will be a second season! Not only is the plot, storyline, and acting by all fantastic but the imagery is amazing as well. The use of color is great ~ you get past the fact that only stark white was used in that era quickly in lieu of appreciation of said use of color. 5 Stars
The Wait’s Over! This suspenseful Netflix series, starring Sarah Paulson (AHS), has dropped right on schedule!
Be sure to check out Flick’s Trailer, then binge away at the eight Episodes to see how her story began.
Then, perhaps watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, to see how she ended up!.
Now this looks good and can’t wait. Will be putting it on my list to watch.
I do enjoy the film noir/neo noir crime thriller style; I think that was the intent here. They did well with the bright-colored wardrobe and sets to bring to life what was usually seen in black-n-white in that type of film or films of that period. I also applaud the use of shadows, split screens, scene transitions, and the rising crescendo of the music to get your heart racing, as a thriller is meant to do.
But they peaked too early (episode 4) and couldn’t maintain the thrall for the remaining 3 episodes. It became more of a soap opera than a crime drama or thriller.
Having said that, Sophie Okonedo and Judy Davis almost took over the show with Sharon Stone killing it despite Sarah Paulson’s great work…look out for the couple of scenes with these two…it’s all in the eyes!
Unfortunately, for me, a season 2 would be more of a meh than a bring it on!.
Based on the trailer this looks like it will be worth the watch.
that was a fun watch need more of that started of slow then picked up the pace every ep Sophie Okonedo needs a oscar for the last 3 ep
Don’t forget that this new drama starts to tomorrow and I can’t wait!
From the start, I was hooked. I’m trying to space out episodes, rather than binge, but…wow. Sarah Paulson plays an amazing Nurse Ratched. The whole cast is incredible. Doesn’t hurt that there’s some eye-candy too (Paulson, Wittrock). Amanda Plummer and Sharon Stone are terrific as well. Leave it to Ryan Murphy to dredge up old talent!
Will Sarah Paulson play nurse Ratchet better than Louise Fletcher? In the movie “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, Fletcher would give you more than stink eye! Sarah Paulson has some mighty big shoes to fill and we shall see come September 18th. I like back story shows like this; we learn what makes them they way they are in the future. Just like in the 2020 version of Perry Mason, we learn what drove him to become the lawyer he was later in his life.
the only 8 episode thing is driving me crazy, i need more finn.
Sarah Paulson at her best as always! GREAT binge!!!
Well, as another poster said, this is certainly “different”. The whole choice of colour scheme is bewildering and over-saturated. Much like the music. Holy hell, I had hoped it would be toned down after the pilot, but nope. This is not boding well for my continued watching.
Costuming and music should enhance not overwhelm or distract from the story. The fact that I am here commenting on them more than the plot speaks for itself.
I think they are pushing too hard to create an atmospheric mood through the scenery inorder to distract from their inability to do so through story and plot and the shortcomings of the dialog. The heavy handedness of it is quite off-putting. It’s like I’m watching a Hitchcock/Lynch/Kubrick wannabe turned up to 11.
I am going to let the 1st two episodes digest a bit before consuming any more. Perhaps some time and distance will bring a different, more favorable perspective.
I may or may not watch episode 2. When GOT was so popular, I watched the 1st epi and couldn’t understand why everyone was so hooked on it. I decided to give it another go about 3 years later and really got into it. I have a feeling this might be the way I go with Ratched. Maybe I’m not really ready to spend a lot of time watching Sarah Paulson portray a complex crazy character and she seems to shine when portraying complex women who drift over the edge. It’s rather draining to watch the crazy do despicable things, I see enough crazy going on right now in the year 2020.
After watching 4 episodes i’m done with this.
It’s really boring, you know everything that is going to before it happens.
Flat and lazy writing and story, hyped up from “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” references and chars.
