I likes me a good mizzenmast in midsummer…it’s pirate time. It’s hard to take well-known historical characters and material and make it fresh and alive - they made a wise choice creating stories that run parallel to pirate canon and historical events, and that lets them deeply develop the characters. Many of the cast were little-known standout actors who made their bones on this show and Toby Stephens is the ex boyfriend who comes slinking around every summer that I can’t quit, dammit. Best high seas battles on TV, beautifully shot, Bear Grylls score, prestige television that doesn’t act like it and that’s refreshing. First couple of eps are slow, stick with it. It just keeps getting better from there. In my top ten series of all time.
This is one of THE greatest shows EVER with one of THE worst series finales EVER! When you can create pretty much any ending scenario you want, the one they went with is totally inexcusable!

This series was okay, and I love John in most of his work ~ but he was a weird Blackbeard…
The first season is good and by that I mean well done as far as acting directing and the likes just a little slow in developing. That all changes with season two and it became one of my favorite shows on television. I would put it up there with Deadwood and the first 6 seasons of Thrones. this is a great show to binge especially if you have friends that have not seen it. Get them to join you and have some fun.
This show never let me down
Good show. The first season is veryyy slow to start but if you make it past first 4 episodes you will be pleasantly surprised. Very well written and some dialogues are top notch. Villain’s become friends, friends become villains. So is life. Plus tons of boobs which is always a plus.
