Solid movie. Not the best, but definitely fits it genre. Tony Jaa and Mila Jovovich are badasses.
That was alright, I like an auld creature feature - even the bad ones, and I intend to watch everything Tony Jaa does hoping for another ong bak… Good action and effects, stunning African landscapes, half decent story and acting - you could do worse things with those 90 minutes.
This isn’t a movie. It’s utter nonsense…not even on par with the fantastic game namesake. Paul Anderson has made some terrible decisions, but this takes the cake; who takes the easy premise of the game and makes it….this unexplained and ridiculous “movie”. A movie should have interesting, fleshed out characters, a plot, realistic fight scenes (not just Milla making faces 😠 with cut after cut after cut (most of which aren’t even edited in well), and doing nothing even close to acting). Tony Jaa is the only reason to watch this piece of smelly poo. He saves it from being a F- to a C Thank you, Tony. You and the monsters salvaged what you could.

If you’re a fan of the Monster Hunter game this will be a hugely disappointing film adaptation. Kinda feel bad they typecast Milla Jovovich in these roles and give her a bad story to work with. They should’ve focused on mainly the Monster Hunter world because adding the real world element killed this. The action was fine and some of the CGI was off but this is a bad cam quality to truly judge. Just another typical sad video game movie for me.
Look up the director and you’d know his wife will be the main character, hence the Resident Evil movies.
In my opinion, one of the most cluttered and boring scripts I have ever endured. I kept waiting for it to get better but it only got more outlandish and more horribly acted. A reedeeming quality was the decent CGI monsters.

People look to deep into movies now a days. Just enjoy them for what they are. This was a nice little action packed film. I really liked it.
i didn’t even play the video games so this of no consequence to me LOL would still watch it either way. just for the director and his gorgeous wife. loved the film. haters got a problem with that well here’s what i think….gives a big fat fart.
Super cast, great action, stunning visual effects.
However, horroble writing made this movie really bad.
If you like lots of CGI, and elaborate fighting scenes with not a lot of story telling. You’ll love this.

Just got done watching the whole thing, cam copy was actually pretty good, first minute or so was a bit dark, after that was a good copy, but thinking it was dark by intent. Ad’s were not really bad in this one either, they seemed to have toned it down a bit.
Like Jaa as well, and not his usual kind of role, and really like what he did with it, really good job he did with this one. Wouldn’t mind if they came out with a follow up to this. Was pretty good.

Don’t remember offhand which version I watched, might have been streamplay, had fewer when I watched, but was not dark at all, except the first minute or so. How far into it did you go? after the first minute or so it was actually a pretty good copy. Ad’s were not as bad as they normally were either, was actually kind of surprised at that as well.

For some reason I was thinking about pitch black while watching this. I think it should of been in a jungle setting instead of desert. They did a good job on the monsters. The story in the games never really mattered it all about hunting monsters and looting to make weapons and armor with
I was hooked on the OG Monster Hunter on my PSP back in the day and this is very loosely based on that..recognized a few weapons from the game and a couple monster names but that was about it. Other than that, this was a fairly action packed creature feature from start to finish, no deep thinking involved here. A pure popcorn flick if I ever saw one. Glad I waited for DVD copy. Cheers!

Per Deadline Hollywood Dec 6, 2020 “‘Monster Hunter’ Producer Issues Apology Over Scene That Stirred China Backlash; Dialogue To Be Removed.” There are so many more reasons to bitch about this movie, in retrospect the bad joke will seem petty.

I can’t understand all the high expectations people demand out of something that’s made for entertainment. No need to rundown every little detail that doesn’t meet with yours. I don’t see all the critics here making movies.
As for Milla Jovovich, still doing many of her own stunts at 45, she’s rockin’ it.
Except for the Ong-Bak trilogy, which I have seen multiple times, I think I’m going do a Tony Jaa binge.

Standard fantasy/action flick, inspired by a videogame franchise that is popular in Japan. Not much of a storyline or dialog and there are some continuity issues, weird logic etc., but, if you concentrate on that, you will miss the point of the movie which is to entertain you with mindless monster bashing and ………. well that’s about it. Not good enough to recommend yet not bad enough to say “avoid this”.
Much better than I was expecting. It was fun to watch. Hopefully it paid tribute to the game/rs.

These are pretty big files for ‘cam’ quality.
Movie looks good and the darkness clears up after about a minute but the picture to screen ratio is off so I can’t see everything that’s happening on the screen. With that said I think it’s worth waiting for dvd quality.
