Forcing myself to keep watching but totally underwhelmed. The Matrix is still a trilogy.

Hollywoods desire to milk the hell out of every franchise, this movie was very subpar and did not need to be made.
Horrible spoof like movie . Poor imitation of the 1st movie with no substance . The main villain was unbelievable and the story was cookie cutter and jumbled.
Meh, the who thing just seemed forced, low/energy, almost depressing. 2.5/5 for me.

I feel bad for u and anyone else who actually thought this would compare to the first movie or even the second and third. We all know after the first one the series falls off big time.
Decent action, bad casting of actors. And please who wrote that script? this movie was just bad. I loved the other Matrix movies but this was just pure bad. Can’t say any more of the ending because I get banned.

A cheesy, spoon-fed, rehashed, boring, money-grab.
All of the action sequences suffer from poor editing, cheap special effects, and childish dialog, specially tailored for the mind of the average 10 year-old.

if you hated the original Ghostbusters, Star Wars and Terminator, but LOVED the latest reboots (not ghostbusters, the one before the fix) then you’ll LOVE LOVE LOVE this latest Matrix Quadrilogy!

Another perspective after a second watch:
It’s not about the actors but the characters. When you really pay attention, Neo and Trinity (mostly Neo) were really not only Physically tired but mentally broken from all past battles and coming back to…Not what they thought they died for…
Lana Wachowski is a GENIUS! Hope she finds a way to keep telling this story.
Wish I could let Mr Reeves and Ms Moss know how grateful most of us are they accepted to do this again for whatever reason.

As someone old enough to know and appreciate the first 3 movies, and who like many others of my generation were shattered at how #3 ended. The moment I heard about the 4th I’ve been looking forward to seeing what they were gonna do. And what did that wait and anticipation get me?
THIS disappointing mess.
Entertainment wise it was ‘ok’ at best, story wise it was ‘meh’. Yeah, it was nostalgic to see Keanu and Carrie-Anne back in action, but come on. Was it a movie that needed to me be made? NO IT WAS NOT!
The only things that kept me watching were Jessica Henwick and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, because they are both AMAZING. The rest of the cast were a bunch of ‘Netflix Rejects’. (Yeah, “technically” Henwick is a ‘Netflix Rejects’ too, but that girl is a total bad ass.)
They should have just left well enough alone instead of disgracing that incredible legacy with this pointless nonsense.
On the other hand, the younger ones who don’t know the awesomeness of the first 3 movies, might enjoy this.
Matrix 4 is like a great car which starts well, but all tyres are flat and a coughing engine, cannot enjoy the ride this way…

I used a chrome extension to up the brightness and some other settings to make this copy more watchable. Unfortunately the movie itself was a 5/10 at best. A glorified love story.
I feel there were a lot of questions that were either unanswered, or if they were, it wasn’t very clear. That and quite a few plot points that weren’t explained.
what extension did you use?
There’s a neat extension called Video Styler that lets you adjust pretty much all picture settings for videos. For darker videos in particular, you can bump up the brightness, contrast, and saturation.

I love that they tried, but I wish the screenplay had been vetted more carefully. All the elements are present, but it falls short of that final hurdle that creates a masterpiece.

Pretty thin. Expected as much from the 4th installment. 2 more in the makes i have no doubt after watching this.
I thought it was a good movie, 3.5 out of 5 stars. Cam copy was a little dark and sometimes hard to tell what they were saying. I look forward to watching it again when a much better copy is available.
I agree with your assessment on the video, but would give this a solid 4.0 just on the plot twist that was in there, won’t say any more as I don’t want to make this a spoiler. Was pretty good, and think this was worth going to the movies and paying to see on the big screen. Don’t say that often, but also say that about the new Spiderman as well, that was great as well.

I love how people are like “it’s not as good as the original matrix movies!” as though the second and third matrix sequels weren’t horrible…
The 2nd and 3rd weren’t as good as the first but they were passable and you felt the matrix vibe from them. This movie was blue pill for sure , no matrix energy in this at all .

Loved every minute of it. Do not understand the bad reviews, of course those reviews never state why they did not like it, so take it with a grain of salt.
This is a solid continuation of The Matrix mythos. It is very meta for a film but that should not detract the viewer from enjoying the story.
I watched it with my headphones on and that helped a lot with the sound.
The only thing I didn’t like was that wish-dot-com Ryan Reynolds playing Agent Smith.
For me this was almost perfect. It is an example of how reboots could/should go. Unlike the lastest starwars films and even badboys. A great mix of the old and new. With few twists here and there but I honestly was surprised a number of times. Where I thought I knew what was going on, or what would happen. Nope. I love being wrong. 4.5 but I gladly rounded it up to a 5. And yes I will pay to see it when it comes out. Small details I missed plus some text that was in another language. -
I enjoyed it. What’s not to like?
I watched the first movie (day of release) on two hits of SUPREMELY clean L to the S to the D, and convinced my coolassed grandmother to go to the theater to watch it with me.
We both LOVED it (Kudos to me that g-ma didn’t know I was TRIPPIN’ balls).
But I hated the next two. Filler Material.
I have followed Reeves’s career and him as a generally awesome human outside of film since. Dude deserves the check -in here and there.
So I made a decision.
I watched the first movie and pre-gamed going to the theater, then went and watched this after a couple of brews.
I pretended Reloaded and Revolutions NEVER happened.
It Clicked.
I HIGHLY (pun fully intended) Recommend you do the same.
that was the point of this movie. for you to forget everything before it. NOT A F’N CHANCE. Original Matrix (like Star Wars 4) changed my life. How dare they.
I’d rather watch this film in the Theatres, So I can get that good full HD surround sound and quality. The Matrix is worth that much.
Watched it here, and waiting for a better version to see it again. Highly recommend going to the movies and spending the money to see this, the new Spiderman movie as well. Am on Disability myself, and if I had the extra, would go do it. Might try and come up with the scratch for the Spidey movie soon, we have a place in town that is kinda cheap, might go there if they have it.

Understood. Have a place here where I’m at, called Nickelodeon, not sure what the price is now, been years since I actually went there, but used to be if you went during certain afternoon hours, you could watch a movie for $8 bucks. Probably a bit higher now, most like $10-12, but still a lot cheaper then a lot of other places around here (Portland, Maine).
They most like as not will have both movies.

Cool movie! Made me feel nostalgic. It was nice to see some old friend even though they had new faces. Also, it was nice to actually see Neo & not John Wick for some of the movie.
Some scenes, especially night scenes, were just too dark to see but I couldn’t care less! It is FREE!
Will watch again when a better copy is available here.

Yeah a little disappointed in the script, the story was a little bad. I know WB was gonna make a Matrix movie with or without Lana which makes me wonder if she tanked it because she knew there was no need for a sequal.

It was as good as the earlier matrix movies. The first part was a stretch for me but action speaks volumes. Wonder if it will be available in 3D in the theater? Would be awesome.

You are comparing this to a movie that was chosen to be archived because of being very cultural significant and a cinematic masterpiece by the Library of Congress, and was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry. Brilliant! It always amazes me how Matrix can be such a “smart” movie! I will go see it at the cinema to make sure I do my part in the recognition of this master piece.

I was honestly not disappointed with this film. I understand that many people really disliked this movie, but what were they expecting? I knew this movie was NOT going to be a big, ground-breaking feature like the first film in the franchise was. But was it entertaining, and was the story interesting? Absolutely. Would I recommend this film? YES! But I will say, it is hit or miss for a lot of people, especially if you are expecting so much from it. If you’re going to watch this movie, don’t watch it expecting a whole lot. If you’re expecting this movie to be ground-breaking and revolutionary like the first one was, then yes, you’re going to be disappointed. So just sit back, relax, and joy the film for what it is. shameless cashgrab…it adds NOTHING to the story of the trilogy. fans of the originals will end up feeling empty and everyone else will simply be bored as the action scenes aren’t even that great and as the story is simply non-existent. seriously this movie doesn’t “do” anything story wise. It’s worth a FREE watch, sure (never mind I fell asleep and had to re-watch it)…maybe a watch in theater if it’s dirt cheap but that’s mostly for the purpose of just getting out of the house more than anything but there are worse films out…mildly entertaining is too generous but honest
While entertaining and thought provoking it also never stoops so low as taking itself seriously. The closest analogy I can come up with is, if you took a George Carlin performance and made it into an Action/Scifi movie. You get the same disdain for all the stuff blue pill junkies think is important. Of course you don’t have to get all thinky and question everything, there is plenty of action, drama, romance and nostalgia to keep most viewers happy, it is after all, up to you.
A very awesome movie, don’t knock it until you try it for yourself you choose what you like not the ratings, remember the ratings can always be wrong so give it a try you might like it.

It’s not terrible. They went back to what worked. No raves in caves to tribal music to be seen. There were a few moments where the meta-humor got so strong I lost it giggling. This movie was made with a strong sense of irony that can be felt and appreciated. Having said that, you already saw the 1st one, nothing will ever be as good, not even if you watch the first one again. It’s the old adage about bottled lightning. Short of amnesia due to a head injury, it can only go downhill after that first one—but it definitely came back up from the 2nd and 3rd.

You still should see it, the story actually continues of what happened after the third movie ended. It’s not like it’s a total waist of time, but just not as great as the originals. I do not think anything can compare to the first three movies. Please see it, you might just like it.

Like other fans I had to force myself to finish it. NOT impressed in the least haha It’s a random Matrix where nothing in the past mattered and they just decided to change the rules of death? I see why the brother wanted no part in directing this movie!! Don’t get me wrong, the movie was awesome!!! There’s no denying that, BUT if you add the matrix, the story, and ALL the parts us fans loved…. It just sucked!!

Sooo yeah, not the best story at all. They really wore out the references to the original movies. Didn’t feel or look like the original movies whatsoever.
But it wasn’t horrible, I didn’t mind watching all of it. Kept up a good pace, I suppose.

I’m a superfan and I loved this, just to see Neo and Trinity ride again and be immersed once more in the universe. However the plot and characterisation seemed week and overall this was a very confusing movie!

They tried to sell this as a simple sequel but when you arbitrarily get rid of two of the more interesting characters to just replace them with generic look alikes it is a reboot plain and simple. And not a very good looking reboot either, between the cameras and cinematography it looks like a student film shot on iPhones. The new characters are lackluster and even worse, fit contemporary tropes rather than filling a futuristic world. If you loved the originals skip this trash. If you love good movies skip this trash.
Got a question: Since the Matrix (all of them) are now faint memories (I know it was great), should I binge the previous or even just one before watching?? Just FYI, I tend to take movies for what they are and not for what we hyped them to be
both keanu and nph are legends and did a great job in this movie, not as great as some of the others but very good in the series, nice continuity to the story and would love to seem more nph whether movies or tv…thank you primewire for allowing us to enjoy this
first of let me start by saying warner bro’s should fire (possibly out of a cannon) whoever they got to make the trailer, this movie was gold, juat when you thought “ah.. great, its just the same old movie” nope, its twist!.
I urge you all my fellow primewire folk, if you can afford it, go watch it in cinmeas, buy hbo max and show them the love this movie deserves, i watched this movie expecting to hate it based on what ive seen in trailers and read.. i honestly expected this to be just another cash grab based on a trademark but nope WB opened their wallets on this movie and came to play big. this is the matrix we grew up loving as a kids/teens remade and reimagined for the new generation… but dont let me influence you one way or another, watch it and make up your own mind!

I like how meta and aware of itself M.IV was. I thought the movie was great start to finish! I feel like they hit nearly every single nail right on the head. 9/10!

-1 instead of the extended bike-ride scene maybe they could have shown us Neo and Trinity waking up more, in different ways, so the roof scene made more sense. But I know Keanu and his love of rides.
The audience knows and see’s them waking up much more after the last cafe scene with all the soldiers, but the characters themselves not so much though they started to remember more this could have been shown more too with the time they took up psi-blasting cars. Im sure Covid presented many challenges in the way they wanted to shoot the movie. Im really glad for it though. The ending was crazy! That convo was nuts! And the classic familiar final shot with a twist.
The after credits-scene could have literally been anything else. During the movie those brainstorms were fitting and borderline hilarious and on point - but not in after-credits. Maybe a shot of Io or Niobi?
I figured that the post-credit scene was a piss-take of the Marvel post-credit scenes — i.e., people waiting to see if there is a teaser and then they get a total nonsense thing like that. I laughed because I fell for it too — sat through the credits just to make sure and then that. :D
