They tried to sell this as a simple sequel but when you arbitrarily get rid of two of the more interesting characters to just replace them with generic look alikes it is a reboot plain and simple. And not a very good looking reboot either, between the cameras and cinematography it looks like a student film shot on iPhones. The new characters are lackluster and even worse, fit contemporary tropes rather than filling a futuristic world. If you loved the originals skip this trash. If you love good movies skip this trash.
