MINDHUNTER is based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit, by former special agent John Douglas and Mark Olshaker. For years, Douglas pursued some of the most notorious serial killers and rapists, developing profiling techniques to catch them. The book goes behind the scenes of some of his highest-profile cases, including the man who hunted prostitutes in Alaska, the Atlanta child murderer, and Seattle's Green River killer. To hone in his profiling methods Douglas interviewed and studied a skew of serial killers. Several book and TV characters have been based in part on him, including Jack Crawford in Thomas Harris' The Silence of the Lambs, Will Graham on Hannibal and Jason Gideon on Criminal Minds.

This is a fantastic show, Currently one of my favorites on the go right now. Created by David Fincher/Joe Penhall based on the book mentioned in the synopsis above. But as with David Fincher he takes his creative liberties to be able to make it into a psychological thriller/Drama. Totally worth the watch but Don’t expect High pace action or a storyline/plot/character development that is spoon fed to you.
1 Episode in and I can truly say… this is amazing.
I thought it was gonna be totally not for me. Somehow I thought it would be like some mixture of true TV & fiction… which I guess it is…but its sooo much better than I anticipated. This is True Detective Season 2. The real season 2 I always wanted but never got.
10/10 stars for first episode; and anyone that knows Jenneh knows I dont give perfection lightly or …at all

Mindhunter takes place in the 70s when serial killers first started cropping up. Two teamed FBI agents; one fascinated with the psychology of the killers wanting to interview and study them and the other just wanting to continue on as usual, coaching other law enforcement and hunting them down. This is not your typical repugnant serial killer show but is instead unique and absolutely fascinating. -five stars
There were plenty of serial killers around before the 70’s they just coined the term serial killer in the 70s 🤨
A lot of things are put out there by the media as if they happened just as much in past decades as they do now. “They” do not want us to be aware that society is in a rapid moral decline. I’m old and was around in the 50’s and 60’s so I have first hand knowledge.
All 5 police badges for tracking down the degenerates among us and putting them away. It’s realistic in the writing and portrayals for it’s era because a lot of the tactics developed then are refined and still in use today.
Can’t believe they’ve axed this show. Looks like BTK got a lucky break.
Came to this straight after ‘In The Dark’. There was a playlist titled “Whodoneit binges” and I thought perfect! This was at the top and after following all the JCS and associated Youtube criminal psychology channels this seemed exactly what I needed next. If I’m going to compare I wished ‘ITD’ was more like this - slow-paced, methodical, nuanced, gritty, clever, genuine, and I have to wonder why that comparatively subpar melodrama is still running while this impressive piece filmic literature has been axed (don’t pardon the pun). I can only imagine it was the ratings and public pressure that resulted in it’s discontinuation and if so, that’s sad. I don’t expect everyone to like what I like, but I do wish there were more shows like this run to their full potential. Vince Gilligan must’ve fought tooth and nail to keep Breaking Bad from being shutdown after the second season. This show had that same potential.
A psychological thriller and drama where all the thrill is psychological with not much risk for the protagonists. Very slow burn. Not sure if worth the time with all the shows out there to watch.
Like what exactly? Spoilt for choice doesn’t seem like a very good reason for ditching a show that had great potential and delivered in every episode. And why do I get the feeling “slow-burn” is meant as a criticism? In this day and age, it’s a complement. 90% of the many shows you speak of follow a slap-and-dash all-action-not-much-thought type approach. This is actually a breath of fresh air. It’s reflective of the subject matter - organised, methodical. And I have to question whether you’ve seen passed the first few episodes - there is great risk to the protagonists. It’s not the life-threatening tabloid melodrama we’re all used to - it’s far more insipid; genuine; believable. And for that, it is 100% worth the meagre amount of time it was given compared to far lesser shows of a similar vein. 5/5. No question.
