Being a young 50 something I saw the original Star Wars in theaters when it came out. I may be in the minority but I have no need to watch the 100 prequels that have come out since. I really don’t want to know why the characters became what they are. It ruins the mystery for me. I’m still a fan though. May the force be with you all.

DanoJones47 7 points 9 months ago.

Yes, exactly. I’m 51, and Star Wars :A new hope was the first movie I seen in a theater— 1977. (Jaws was the 2nd). I prefer the original 3. If someone other than K.K. were putting them out, I’m sure they’d be a bit more palatable.

hellsingfan01 8 points 10 months ago.

The only prequels that count are episodes one through three and Rogue One the rest of them just aren’t needed.

greyfur 5 points 9 months ago.

Rouge One was good, really good. Wish they made more like that one….

hellsingfan01 4 points 9 months ago.

Same here it’s the only good Star Wars movie that Disney have done.

xii43158 1 points 9 months ago.

There is the Andor series, which is amazing.

greyfur 2 points 9 months ago.

Yup, been watching that. There is not that I have been watching anymore, though there are a few that are getting ready to be cancelled, at the end of this season, am following through on those. Andor is really good, and has my attention, and have been waiting for the next season to come out.

Seems to me that there is not a lot of really good quality stuff coming out anymore, and especially when it comes to science fiction, depending on what you like. And when something good does come out, it seems like it does not last very long, sadly.

One good one, that I have come to like, unrelated to Star Wars, is the new ‘Dark Matter’ series. Total mind bender, and it does not take one long to get hooked into it. If you have not watched it, I would strongly recommend it. It’s up to episode 5 on the first season, so you have a nice partial binge to look forward to.

xii43158 1 points 9 months ago.

I am on 5th episode of Dark Matter now. It’s not bad, but the inconsistencies and illogical choices are a little annoying

greyfur 1 points 9 months ago.

Don’t know about inconsistencies, but there have no doubt been some illogical choices. But that is all about people being people. If people always made logical choices, they wouldn’t be very normal. Or even people.

joeinwb 4 points 10 months ago.

Amen. Really the only good ones are the first one, a new hope, and Rogue one.

hellsingfan01 6 points 10 months ago.

All of the original trilogy are great films the prequels are now good thanks to THOSE dread Disney films.

hackenprof 4 points 9 months ago.

Same age, seen every SW movie on the big screen (credentials, woohoo) and I feel exactly the opposite. Give me stories, more stories, and keep the stories coming, I gobble it up even if The Mandalorian writers did steal scenes from every well known sci-fi movie of the last 50 years (including SW). Admittedly lazy and unoriginal, but i still enjoy the stories, just as I’m enjoying this one so far. I grew up reading Thieves’ World and Dragonlance novels, where the stories never end, so that might be my problem.

robstew522 15 points 9 months ago.

What utter crap. It’s like Star Wars and Dr WHo are having a race to cancellation, and SW just said “hold my beer”. This should make George Lucas feel better about “THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL”

Jearnesto1984 6 points 9 months ago.

I gave up on this one after 15 minutes horrible acting

Gnostic_Alchemist 10 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

Pretty bad writing to be honest

Vmonk2 6 points 9 months ago.

Just watched ep3 and yeah really bad writing (this coming from a pro tv writer - myself). The whole ep was just recapping what we already knew from the overly long exposition in eps 1 and 2.

tamerlane 1 points 5 months ago. 1/5 stars.

You’re absolutely correct. The writing was awful; could have been much better.

HudsonJr 8 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

Boring and a yawnfest!

GeminiSaga 8 points 9 months ago. 3/5 stars.

Wow, that fell flat quick. I’ve seen better plots in low budget video games.

frank44552 7 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

watched ep1 and that was enough for me, one of the worst Star wars franchises out there , wont be watching ep2 or any of the episodes for that matter

meluv 6 points 9 months ago.

Even the trailer was shallow. Probably meant for video gamers who like ‘action’ scenes without any emotion or character to go with it.

maxx.black2 4 points 6 months ago. 1/5 stars.

ripped all of the episodes in order to binge watch the series…didn’t get wrapped up with the posted reviews, thinking to give it an unbiased watch with no preconceptions…I made it halfway through the third episode and I absolutely couldn’t stay interested in what it was I was watching.
Group me in with “this really sucked” folks…because it did

Luvlinguae 5 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

Just when you thought modern franchises couldn’t turn into even bigger piles of steaming hot garbage, this one comes along and proves you wrong.

tabularascal 3 points 8 months ago*.

The Jedi in this are like if Doctor Who regenerated into a conservatively dressed gun nut. What ever happened to the messianic eugenicist caricatures of Tibetan monks?

Werebackbaby 4 points 9 months ago. 3/5 stars.

Underwhelming. All I have to say about this show at the moment and after only 2 episodes. Also feels like the episodes are simply too short. These 2 first episodes could’ve been a single episode worth of storytelling and then in the second one you get hooked in, which did not happen. 3/5, I’ll probably finish it because I’m a nerd, unless it becomes even more boring and slow.

Davidleefl43 4 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

star track meets the CW vibe 😂

frank44552 3 points 8 months ago. 1/5 stars.

how to destroy starwars

hellsingfan01 2 points 7 months ago.

As well as how to divide the Star Wars fan base even further thanks Disney.

darklighter1 3 points 9 months ago.

WOW…a bunch of level headed Star Wars fans. Not one nasty comment in the bunch telling us how great the sequel series is and the trash Disney shows outside of Andor. Have I passed into another SF universe the Twilight Zone?

hellsingfan01 4 points 9 months ago*.

There are some level headed Star Wars fans out there but sadly we’re just not given much actually good Star Wars content these days thanks to Disney.

ribbet29 2 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

Did you forget to add a ‘not’ in there somewhere?

hellsingfan01 3 points 9 months ago.

Joey89 3 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

Stunning and brave

artrok2000 2 points 8 months ago*. 1/5 stars.

WOW, this was so bad; the writing, acting, actor selection, costumes, koombaya song singing. $180M budget, I would love to know who green-lights these projects. Bring back Jon Favreau!

THEDEVIANTONE 2 points 9 months ago.

just read all the comments…..ALL I GOT TO SAY IS THIS “ODEAN CINEMA 1970,S OBI WON KENOBI SKYWALKER, WOOKIE PRINCESS LEA HAN SOLO, R2-D2 C3 PO AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST….. DARTH VADAR PARTS 1-2-3 ALL THE REST ARE JUST MONEY GRABBING GARBAGE

pramwire 2 points 7 months ago.

Just read today the show has been cancelled officially with no second season coming. I can’t say im particularly bothered either way.
Just enough of a fan that i still watched it. Dunno if it was quite to the standard of a thing i would watch again ever or more than once at most.
Overall however i agree while there were plenty of things about it that weren’t awful there were certainly plenty of not great bits as well.
I recall the first force scene where someone gets held with the force over a cliff or something like that to be such awful cgi and wire work it was painfully obvious there was little even quality movie magic much less the force.
Once i got into that mindset of looking for all the reality breaking things like cartoonish physics shoe horned into a fast and furious movie that aspect alone added at least one fault or a couple to each episode.
Then of course come the humanity meter or when you see characters being hypocrites. Even the older wiser ones being painfully loving and blind towards double standards.
It really did have that overly strong feeling of being a vehicle for ideologies and modern perspectives over a thing unto itself.
On that note i can’t say im sad to see it go.

hellsingfan01 2 points 7 months ago.

A show like this is what you get when you hire Harvey Weinstein’s former personal assistant Leslye Headland as the creator and executive producer of the show heck she even spent a good deal of time when the show was airing for blaming the fans for not watching the show with the show even having ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY MILLION DOLLARS all of which you can’t see on screen.

virtudes2 2 points 9 months ago*. 3/5 stars.

The problem with this show is that they only released two episodes. Why didn’t they released 10 episodes all at once? That’s what they should have done. Not only does the show’s first two episodes leave the viewer confused, wanting more and disillusioned but also it’s something that could have been avoided had they at least released the all of the episodes at once so that the viewer could come to an informed decision as to whether this show is actually worth anything.

kerfy 2 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

Was ok, kinda felt like an australian fan made flick..

frank44552 2 points 8 months ago. 1/5 stars.

I have watched 4 episodes, I really did try to give this a chance, BUT no enough is enough Disney has destroyed starwars . They really really have

DonnyDarko 2 points 9 months ago. 1/5 stars.

OK, I didn’t last 5 minutes., Very bad!

Susan Queen 1 points 9 months ago.

WOKE Sci Fi? Now I’ve heard all the nonsense ever imagined! ~smh~

PZitsEZ 3 points 9 months ago.

First interracial kiss, Star Trek. I think that says it all.

AmieWarren 2 points 8 months ago.

Why does everything have to turn political? It’s a movie. Watch it or don’t watch it, but stop with all the political stuff, please.

Susan Queen 2 points 8 months ago.

PW has placed a “comments section” for us to share our reactions or opinions. Its shouldn’t be a platform for us to debate one another or an arena to make enemies in. We are all affected in different ways about a show/movie and there is no “right or wrong” in each other’s share. Why do you cry that i dared to leave a reaction and then insist that we should all just watch shows like brainless potatoes and not have any opinions whatsoever in the comments box ? I find that absurd.

AmieWarren 3 points 8 months ago.

Because this isn’t a political site, that’s why. Do you even know what “woke” means? I doubt if you even know how it came to be or what it is all about. You just spout it out like some flag of morality or something. There are plenty of right-wing forums online for you to complain about what you think “wokeness” is. We have enough problems in this country without you having to drag your politics in here. Watch or don’t watch. I would give you my opinion on “brainless potatoes,” but that’s irrelevant. BTW, I’m neither right nor left leaning. I’m an independent. I’m just sick of all the divisive rhetoric invading every part of our lives. We can’t even watch a TV show without having it spewed all over us like vile vomit. I’m done now.

hellsingfan01 1 points 7 months ago.

Nananana , nananana hey hey goody bye this show will not be missed by anyone who actually likes Star Wars as this really is just a piece of trash TV show that was always going to get cancelled thanks to it’s ONE HUNRED AND EIGHTY MILLION dollar budget.

MontyFly 0 points 9 months ago.

Having binged the 1st 2 episodes I can happily say I loved it as I have enjoyed all of the prequels and spinoff TV series/movies. Some were not the greatest but, all were enjoyable to me.

So many come here to complain about prequels and one actually complained they are spoilers to the originals. If you don’t like prequels for fear of spoilers then don’t watch them. There has always been an issue with good sci/fi not lasting long on TV so when any company puts out content I embrace it. Besides this one is good.

zak2020 5 points 9 months ago.

I don´t think watching 2 episodes qualifies as binging!

hellsingfan01 2 points 9 months ago.

Nice catch my dude.

MontyFly 1 points 9 months ago.

Why would I trust you? Why would I worry if other people watch or not? Clearly other people agree it is a good show and have already watched the episodes already released?

magically_delicious 3 points 3 months ago. 5/5 stars.

I watched this with my son when he came for a short visit. I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s only my opinion, but I do agree with what you wrote. It’s why I don’t do Social Media and why I don’t come here to write very much. Hope you’re well! 😊

Cap'n Kirk 2 points 3 months ago*.

Perfectly put. I enjoyed this story as well. But, you know what they say about opinions and A-holes. Thus the reason I hate social media and seldom contribute to PW fodder.

magically_delicious 2 points 3 months ago. 5/5 stars.

I’m with you 100%! It’s a pity and it’s sad for those who feel the need to try to be so aggressively coercive/hateful.

hellsingfan01 3 points 9 months ago.

So have I and it’s not that good of a show if you like it then great but by saying “If you don’t like prequels for fear of spoilers then don’t watch them” then all your doing is saying that you like stuff that is mediocre and you should just accept it and question why it’s so bad in the first place.

[deleted]
hellsingfan01 3 points 9 months ago.

One) i’ve never commented on anyt5hing Star Trek at least recently

Two) i’ve been very complimentary towards Doctor Who’s recent season

Three) did you not seen the part of the comment where I said if you like then great.

[deleted]
hellsingfan01 2 points 9 months ago.

You wouldn’t have to search far it’s literally the second line in my response to the person in question. Why my comment was removed is unknown to me as nothing was said in that comment that wasn’t a lie with there being nothing that goes against terms of service or anything like that and thank you for the advice but that’s not me as i’m the kind that will fight for something that he cares deeply for and Star Wars is and always will be one of those things.

frank44552 1 points 7 months ago. 1/5 stars.

I made it to ep6 and was torture , why did it do that to myself , i dont care how it ends , just that it ends , hopefully dysney will sell the franchise to some non bloody woke studio

Euringer 1 points 9 months ago. 4/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

I enjoyed the first few episodes so far. There are shortcomings, and I’ll articulate at least one since there’s not a lot of details being provided other than “It’s bad” - it’s the live action debut of The High Republic, and it will be most people’s introduction to that media, so maybe include more interesting High Republic weirdness in the first two episodes than different colored Jedi robes.

Speed711 1 points 10 months ago*. 1/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

First 2 episodes show on the watch list for Tuesday June 4th. Edit to say I dropped this show at the beginning of the 4th episode. I then see it made national news for disappointing Star Wars fans across the galaxy. The Acolyte’s director & creator Leslye Headland chose to push liberal agenda ideas in her work. The first scene in the bar started out amazing. Carrie-Anne Moss, Trinity from The Matrix was a Jedi Master and her fight scene was looking good. So they had this young assassin manage to kill her in a ridiculous way with a hidden dagger behind the back. WTF? Then the entire series tanked from there, worse and worse with each plot. The next jedi master (I’m not even looking up his name) looked very powerful levitating in mediation and being untouchable because of the force power. Yet he’d choose to drink poison to kill himself? WTF?! Then from there they dive into racist tones like a tribe of people are secretly training these twin girls and although their tribe seems to be the ones to initiate the violence the Jedi’s are now seen as the oppressors in the series with a huge secret to hide. A secret so bad they are willing to die to avoid talking about it. Just trash. So after the assassination attempt that ends in a suicide the twin girls confront each other (again I am not even bothering looking up their names). We’ll just say the one working with the Jedi’s has a chance to shoot and stop the one trying to kill the Jedi’s but she intentionally misses the shot to let the evil twin get away, but everyone is cool with it like oh too bad you tried. These are Jedi’s with high senses that could easily detect her deception and lies. But instead of even focusing on that they almost want to reward her for being so brave to help them try to catch her sister. So feeling all these tones in the direction I had a good idea I was going to drop the series. At the start of episode 4 I just quit watching it as the part was unfolding between one of the sisters and another teen girl congratulating her for helping them try to catch the evil twin. I dropped it right there. Then I read in the news the fans were outraged over them pushing a romantic relationship between two young girls so I guess that is where they took that conversation between two teen girls. Is that how episode 4 went after I quit watching? WTF? Trash.

virtudes2 1 points 9 months ago. 3/5 stars.

Why only two episodes? I think it’s a very bad choice to release only two episodes. I think they should have released the whole first season all at once. Just because the show is so bad well it looks so bad that I don’t want to wait another eight episodes of suffering just to come to the conclusion that it really is that bad. I think if they had at least released all the episodes at once then I would have been satisfied and happy with that.

uuman 1 points 8 months ago. 1/5 stars.

Now that it’s finally concluded, I’m no less disappointed than I was after the first episode. They stretched 3 episodes worth of content over 8 episodes. There is some good to be found, but to be blunt, the creatives behind this show are incompetent. There were already existing characters in-universe to to scratch the itch they were aiming for that they could have built upon. That way they would have had an established outline they could have fleshed out and polished.

Most of the medias defenses of this show just don’t hold water. The one that irritates me the most is crying that they didn’t have enough time to tell a coherent story in just 8 episodes. They were incapable of filling out the episodes they had, losing about 3 episodes worth of runtime for shows in this format due to their VERY short episodes. On top of that, more than half of what was put into the show should have been left on the cutting room floor. Ideally, this should have been cut down to a 2 episode mini-series with a 90min runtime for each episode, akin to Sherlock. The sad part is, a couple of these actors did a very good job even literally making something out of nothing as the showrunner admitted, and this is going to hurt their careers. The people whose careers deserve to be damaged, if not destroyed, by this show are the creatives behind the scenes. In the state this story is in today, this never should have been filmed and, frankly, it never should have even been cast. The story doesn’t even have a coherent outline. There was no chanced of creating an episodic adventure when you don’t have a tangible starting and end point for the season, let alone a concept of where to go as a series.

Waldo512 1 points 1 month ago.

Did this get chopped? I thought it was the best new SW thing in years…..

Harthal 1 points 8 months ago. 3/5 stars.

The show has some good parts but the pacing is awful. There are 2 to 3 episodes that are complete filler, and one of them is just a retelling of a previous episode with only 1/3rd of the episode being new scenes. These Star Wars shows need longer and/or more episodes. The show’s good parts were really good though, so I think Leslye Headland can do better

Gnostic_Alchemist 1 points 7 months ago. 1/5 stars.

I knew there was no chance for a season 2

Macgee 1 points 7 months ago.

Oh dear , what a pitty never mind.
Rogue One is the best with new hope, strike back and Rtn of the Sorcerer then the prequels and then Rey and her band of merry half wits.

Worst scene is a Star Wars movie was “Day at the Horse Racing”

Piglet 0 points 1 year ago.

Still no release date but here is a bit more info on this new series. “The Acolyte,” the first “Star Wars” series set outside the Skywalker Saga, could be the change we need. The upcoming series is a mystery-thriller set 100 years before “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.” A Jedi and their former Jedi master investigate a series of crimes in the final days of the High Republic era, a peaceful time before the Dark Side starts to stir trouble.”

Researcher 3 points 1 year ago.

Just saw the trailer…FYI, first 2 episodes drop 04 JUN 2024…just in case.

Putting aside the woke shit. This was painful to watch, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Star wars was developed using simplistic Archetypes of good and evil. The vewer would identify with the good guy, participate in his sufferings, but full of hope, knowing he will triumph. That describes I think, the appeal of this type of story telling. But to be fair it had an element of tragedy and defeat as well, as Darth Vader was Anakin turned from good to evil and bitter sweatly redeamed in the end. That second tragic element gave depth and balance to the story. ….So the various spinoffs untill know used the first, easy and fun to watch, kind of story telling and this spinoff used the second, tragic kind. Its more demanding and painfull yes, but its worth the watch, advances our emotional intelligence to process more complex feelings and finally does not betray the star wars narration universe. At first I thought it did, but I was wrong.
