British version was better

AstroJeston 11 points 3 years ago*.

They usually are.

yman 1 points 3 years ago.

i agree the only show where the US version is better than the UK is the office the UK one is way to dry and im british

etim 6 points 3 years ago. 2/5 stars.

Yeah, I agree. The 1st two eps felt forced, clumsy. The funny parts seemed to only be what they copied straight from the Brit version. The US’s writing and gags often fell flat. Hopefully it was just an initial awkwardness, like some shows’ intro eps are but I ain’t expecting too much, it being CBS and all. I’ll give it another ep or two, see if it gets any better.

Boraes 7 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

They did the same thing with Red Dwarf - Took a really popular funny and clever BBC program and make it ‘American’ it just felt like a slapstick sitcom. Will watch these later and see how it goes…

LaserGuy 7 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

Now this ought to be interesting just to see how much gets ripped off from the British version which is very entertaining.

ShinmenTakezo 6 points 3 years ago.

I’s watch Rose McIver wash dishes.

MrFecker 2 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

ditto :)

Jaxluger 6 points 3 years ago.

I watched and enjoyed the BBC version of this show that was released a couple years ago, they are in their 3rd season. I can’t believe how very similar the scripts are and the ghost characters. Reminds me of Shameless, watch the first episode of the British version and then the American version and the script is almost identical. No imagination on the US side.
Now I did like the show and will continue to watch it just to see if they change anything but I doubt it.

33madlib 6 points 3 years ago.

True, but Shameless (US) ended up being a great show IMO. And The US Office.

This show seems unnecessary though.

Peevee 4 points 3 years ago.

The pilot episodes of the British and American versions of “The Office” are nearly identical too, of course, that show diverged A LOT from the original after the pilot so one really remembers the near word-for-word pilot.

irdulili 3 points 3 years ago. 4/5 stars.

America’s The Office really grew into its own thing. I’m hoping that’s the case with this.

xWoodyx 5 points 3 years ago.

Umm…what? I am getting Joel McHale in the IT Crowd vibes.

m4stv 4 points 3 years ago. 1/5 stars.

or the MTV version of The Inbetweeners..

DoobieKeebler 3 points 3 years ago. 1/5 stars.

or the MTV version of “Skins.”

Audie80 4 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

Best part was Rose Mciver saying “zombies don’t exist”ironically funny

CaptKSKS 3 points 2 years ago. 5/5 stars.

Season Finale airing this Thursday, April 21st.

growlingcheetah 4 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

American version of the original BBC version. Hopefully they do it justice because i absolutely love this series , it’s freaking hilarious! Here’s hoping :)

growlingcheetah 3 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

UPDATE it’s pretty good! it’s a bit changed but not too much. Enjoy!

MissVince 4 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

Like it 😍

SapphireStorm 3 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

I seriously can’t wait for this one. I absolutely LOVE the British one so I have high hopes for the American version!

Rasnac 2 points 10 months ago. 5/5 stars.

I watched both British and U.S. version and I am happy to say they are both brilliant, and while having the same general premise, they are very different from each other.

michaelmyers 2 points 3 years ago.

british version rocks been watching sence day one so cant see any other show trying to make money off an original !

moeaddasi 2 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I just finished season 3 from the British version before starting this, I think this will be similar to how the office split from the original, first few episodes feels very similar and a close copy, but the 2 humans are actually better than British equivalent, the ghosts on the other hand are hit or miss, lack of the Captain and barely any scenes of the headless guy is interesting choice, i will be watching this.

DogsPajamas 2 points 3 years ago. 1/5 stars.

Finally getting better, episode four was good. To be fair, I guess I am comparing it to the British version, so I am giving the American version a chance. It has gotten better.

16jazzlyn16 2 points 3 years ago.

I watched the BBC version. Not sure I need to watch the American version..

PsychoMan 2 points 3 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This is a 100% rip off of the British one, down to the moron with an arrow through the throat, & they even had the moron husband put a hole in the old prudes wall, same as BBC’s it is very sad that these days nobody has any inspired thoughts anymore I believe the older I get the dumber the world becomes, I watched E-1 & doubt I watch E-2.

kerfy 2 points 3 years ago.

More american “originality” ..lol

AstroJeston 1 points 3 years ago.

According to WhatToWatch.com, the American “Ghosts” has just been given a full season order from CBS for the 2021-2022 broadcast season. I don’t know how many episodes that means, but the usual American number tends to be more than the British, so they’ll quickly use up all the British script ideas and have to start making up their own.

Odie 1 points 3 years ago.

umm its already started. Couple weeks late there.

AstroJeston 1 points 3 years ago.

I’m not sure, but I think it was originally only a partial season order (a few episodes), but is now upgraded to a full season order.

piraino 0 points 3 years ago. 5/5 stars.

Better than the original!

dosmundos 3 points 2 years ago. 1/5 stars.

not even close lol. The British version is 10x better than this rip off

augusts1 1 points 7 months ago.

Enjoyed this. Had some good laughs too. I tried watching the UK version a few years ago & couldn’t get into it. Then again I think that had more to do w/the accents since I have a hard time with understanding accents. I had a hard time w/Game of Thrones because of the accents too.

Piglet 0 points 3 years ago.

I’m finally getting back to watching this sitcom and I’m on episode 3. Can anyone tell me why the ghosts in the basement can’t roam around the house like the ghosts upstairs. It might have been in the first two episodes but I can’t remember and don’t want to watch those episodes again. Thank you.

Piglet 0 points 3 years ago.

Never mind, they appeared upstairs but still don’t know why they stay in the basement.

LaserGuy 1 points 2 years ago. 5/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

I believe they just choose to. There seems to be a ‘class’ of ghost types. The upstairs class/group and the basement dwellers that all seemed to expire from the plague or smallpox, which I guess makes them inferior to the upstairs class. One basement dweller did move upstairs for a couple of episodes but it didn’t last.

CaptKSKS 2 points 2 years ago. 5/5 stars.

In the British original the basement ghosts were all the upstairs actors in plague makeup, I think that may have carried over in early episodes.

LaserGuy 2 points 2 years ago. 5/5 stars.

Son of Gun.. I never noticed that about the U.K. version
Tnx

Alien 4 points 2 years ago.

In the British version many of the actors are also the writer/creators.
