This is a short experimental film I created with a Super 8 camera. The footage was shot in Bloomington, Indiana and then developed in Boston. The inability to escape death tends to be one of the most overlooked aspects of life. When we die the only thing that remains on this earth is our decaying corpse. What we plan to do with our departed body is up to our family and to us. One common and traditional place of rest is a graveyard. These homes to the dead are filled with members whose life spans vary form plot to plot. To truly capture a location such as this would be to pay homage to those who lay at rest. The symbolism of graveyards can be beautiful to some and detrimental to others. For example, since beauty is an inherited trait whose perception lies in the eyes of the beholder, to some death can represent a beautiful feature of life. Personally, graveyards hold a dear place in my heart as a therapeutic and poetic location. To truly capture the feelings and meaning of a graveyard through the medium of film can be argued to be a herculean task, however I feel that it could be respectfully accomplished as I reflected with my work. This film demonstrates, in an essence, the full embodiment of what a graveyard represents. A graveyard is a darkly bright spot, which holds our loved ones for an indefinite amount of time. My film chose to create a power confirmation of death and the reality of what typically happens to ourselves once we are long since departed. Out of all the places that could be have been potentially documented, I personally felt that a graveyard held the most significant meaning and confrontation with the inconvenient reality that is death.
