History has recorded the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln to be somewhere in Kentucky, but family legends in Rutherford County tell a different birth story for the great leader, with roots in Western North Carolina. HONEST, ABE tells the story of Nancy Hanks, Lincoln’s mother, from childhood through her marriage to Tom Lincoln. As it was with the legend, this story is told with multiple voices, an homage to the oral tradition. Preserved for over 150 years, the legend awaits DNA proof of its veracity. |
