In November 2009, filmmaker and performance artist Mickey Sanchez decided to take a 53 mile pilgrimage from his parents’ house in New Jersey to his apartment in New York City. He left at 9:21 P.M. on Saturday November 28, and reached his stoop at 8:57 P.M. on Sunday November 29, for a total time of 23 hours and 36 minutes. This film stands as both record and explanation for this pilgrimage, as well as a meditation on memory and its relation to the particularities of city life - mainly the way that love for a city, and especially for the people within it, can shape our experience. The film itself is a collage of images gathered over the course of a year ending with footage of the filmmaker triumphantly crossing the George Washington Bridge. Featuring narration delivered by Jane McDowell and music by Steve Marion (aka Delicate Steve). |
