If you like costume drama and, moreover, mysteries, this should not disappoint.
BBC, thank you once again…
FYI, series 1 was a co-production of Endor Productions and MR Film (Austria) — let’s give credit where it’s due. :)
Did not know that ! Super production value all around - so happy it’s back !!!
I can say one thing for the writers’ strike — it’s turned me onto some really cool shows I probably wouldn’t have ever found otherwise. Loving this show. I love period dramas and mysteries, and this is both, with some subtle humor thrown in. The characters are so interesting. The more you get to know about them, the more you want to know.
IMDb says there are 3 episodes in 2021, Darkness Rising and The Devil’s Kiss, and Melancholy Countess. This is what I found, “Production on Season Two of Vienna Blood will begin in August 2020, shooting on location in Vienna in English, and once again starring Matthew Beard as Max Liebermann, and Juergen Maurer as Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt. A premiere date for season two of the Vienna Blood series was not revealed.” A deep……I can’t wait……sigh goes here!
This is fantastic! Great show and I particulary like the young man in the lead role. Very good actors, script, and production. Thank you!
Glad to see a couple of new episodes airing on the 4th
One episode in and like all of the rest of the commenters here, I love it too. The costumes, acting, location and storyline are all top notch! 5/5
This was excellent. My only complain is that there are no more episodes. Very well made. The victorian sets were amazing, characters engaging, stories very interesting. 5/5
“The BBC has not yet confirmed whether Vienna Blood will return for a second series. However, this does not mean the crime drama will not return in the future.
A renewal will largely depend on ratings, which the BBC has not published yet.
Also factoring into the show’s future will be the source material available to continue the series and the availability of the cast.”

I really enjoyed this series & I’m hopeful that BBC2 will produce at least 1 more.
By the end of season 2 I couldn’t stand Max anymore. He’s pretty much a selfish asshole.
Such an enjoyable show i couldn’t come up with a fault if i was paid too. They might be there mind you but i am completely blind to them when the shows spell folds around you with its impeccable execution from its shoes to its hat.
Everything is right even the bits of mystery and unknowns or usual out of place things seem perfectly in place despite their own role.
Even the theme music sets the tone perfectly with each story.
Season 4 as a two parter was unique and at the same time each movie length episode itself has a continuous character timeline occurring along with it.
Its a clever blending of the classic detective paired with an intellectual or psychological profiler as this evolves into.
It really is largely driven by its rich character stories and continuity as well as the atmospheric period details perhaps more so than the more than competent mystery/ crime its wrapped around.
