In Chicago (1945), Odessa Hicks, a hard-nosed former baseball player and the only woman to play in the Negro Leagues, is given the challenge to coach an all female Negro baseball team in an exhibition game against the all white reigning champions of the All American Girls professional league - The Racine Bells. With little time on her side and the game quickly approaching, Hicks reflects on her life and her hopes to influence and inspire her team of talented black women to seize the opportunity of this “history making event.” - An event she knows is greater than the game of baseball and greater than her own life itself. |
