George Rarey and Bob Harvey were both artists in Greenwich Village, New York, in the late Thirties. When the United States entered WWII in 1941, their lives took on totally opposite paths. Rarey was trained as a fighter pilot and flew his missions from a base in England against the German army. Harvey refused to serve the war and was sent to a remote work camp for conscientious objectors in Oregon. Yet both of them remained active as artists throughout the war and each left with his work a personal and compelling account of their tumultuous time. The granddaughter of these two men, Ondine Rarey, follows their tracks. |
