Okay, that was good. The ending gave me goosebumps. Musicals are not for everyone, but they’re definitely for me, and I enjoyed this. I can’t wait for part 2!
Horrible in every way
this movie was too painful to even watch the first quarter of. i probably fell asleep 6 times before i called it quits. doesnt even come close to the original oz. if you dont want to ruin your child hood dont watch this movie. it’s better just sticking a needle in your eye, because movies these days are just shit and millennials are unoriginal.

After having done a time jump and travelled to 11/21/24 and seen an advanced/Midnight Screening of this movie? It’s 2024’s version of the movie/musical disaster “Cats”.
Wow, that was…spectacular, absolutely brilliant. What a refreshing take on an age old classic.

Give me Aguilera, Dion, Carey…and any musical or stage show will call in the crowds for years to come…..they are legendary voices. But sadly the songs here are too weak for such powerful vocal cords. Calling in Grande was to bring in her fans and I dont know why they placed Erivo into the mix. I wanted to check this out…but after all the horrible things I heard about these 2 leading ladies..

I’m just seeing now that this is a “Part 1”!! Did they break up the Musical?? Is it like a “to be continued…” ending? Is it worth seeing Part 1 now or wait for Part 2 to drop??
Part one if a full narrative story and has a satisfying ending in my opinion. Part 2 would be like a major bonus at this point. I really liked it
K, sweet! I’ve read all the books and seen the Musical. I can see them making each of the 5 books into several movies. It just sucks to hafta wait a year in between each one!!

I liked the world building, both of them can sing and act even better than expected, and I was good through the first half of the movie but 3 hours is way too long. And there’s a Part 2? From Emerald City arrival onward it was lots of “drama” but, no real drama. I was bored with the soaring-at-the-end middle-finger-to-adversity musical numbers, volume on 11, went on far too long. (That’s not Cynthia Erivo’s fault, that’s the book and lyrics of the musical.) My issue with a lot of musicals these days is that so many of them have songs that sound stylistically the same. Melodies aren’t catchy or memorable. Makes you really appreciate the genius of the mid-20th-century giants like Rogers & Hammerstein and the Gershwins.
Movie overall was good but that was mainly due to the acting and singing of the secondary characters. Personally I couldn’t see Ariana as Ga-Linda (aka Glinda) or Cynthia as Elphaba even though they had maybe one or two great scenes. I never understood casting Celebrity Singers in movie musicals if the acting is kinda subpar to the rest of the cast. Don’t get me wrong they are not horrible actors I just couldn’t believe their acting in this project which could either be from their acting choices or the Direction they was given which I didn’t like how the movie was Directed at all just seemed a little too Whimsical and I kinda wish they made it feel more real closer to the style of how Oz looks in the Wizard of Oz, Wiz, or even more similar to the style of the actual show which I feel is a little more realistic than what we got in this movie. This is mainly my thoughts (which I may be the only one to feel this) and that everyone else who is also a Wicked fan would love this movie overall. There are 2 specific Cameos which are Idina and Kristen (the OG Elphaba and Ga-Linda (Glinda)) during an the Grimmering Song that is mixed in between the One Short Day number. Oh they also shortened Something Bad while giving some of the few lines that remain to other new characters that are only in one scene which is a great scene.
