For the young Sezim, education is the highest asset and the only way to escape the poor life in the Kyrgyz countryside. With her traditional parents, however, she encounters incomprehension. That’s why Sezim secretly leaves her parents’ home to study in the capital Bishkek. Only if she succeeds in being among the five best, will she receive a scholarship and can afford to study. But shortly before she gets to know the results of the aptitude test, she is abducted and taken to the countryside by a group of young men. There she is forcibly married to an unknown man. Sezim is the victim of a tradition that is still practiced in Kyrgyzstan today. If she refuses to agree to the marriage, she will bring great shame on herself and her family. It threatens social stigma and exclusion. Between the desire for self-realization and the constraints of tradition, Sezim tries to become a good wife to her husband. But when she has the chance to escape, Sezim leaves everything behind.
