Makota Valdina was a mametu nkisi (mãe de santo/afro brazilian shaman) of Angola’s Camdomble at the Terreiro Nzo Onimboya in Salvador. Since the 1970s until her recent passing away, she was a central figure in the struggle for the defense of African religions, black populations and women’s rights. In this film she tells her life story, the relationship between Candomble’s cosmology, plants, nature, healing work, knowledge and chants. |
