Old high school friend and lush Heather, played by Poonam Basu (Baskets, The English Teacher), demands that straight-laced Sara, played by Desiree Staples (Mia’s Night Out, Monster Therapy), come over after work to drink wine and complain about her boyfriend. Sara arrives to find Heather trying desperately to open a wine bottle with a shoe. She can’t find a corkscrew and she thinks her boyfriend is cheating on her. However, as one bottle empties, Sara has the courage to finally ask the question,” why don’t you leave?” Heather, still lost in her storm of self-absorption, lashes out until Sara slaps her and she comes to her senses - realizing she’s in a terrible relationship. In trying to console Heather, Sara and Heather fall into bed together. In the morning after, Sara wakes to discover Heather on the phone with her boyfriend, nothing changed from the night before. The next time Heather calls, inevitably to lament another thing her boyfriend has done, Sara must decide whether to pick up and start the whole cycle over again, or move on without Heather. |
