= Low Quality | = Medium Quality | = High Quality | How do I watch these? |
Can barely wait to see it. Adapted from the original:
https://www.primewire.ag/movie/83934-watch-nightmare-alley
Is it a remake of that 1947 movie?
From an article/review in Forbes:
“The film is a remake of a Tyrone Power-starring film noir, faithful in broad narrative strokes but its own thing (or at least its own adaption of William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel) thanks to plenty of spit and polish. Whether or not it deserves or receives awards season love or Oscar nominations, it’s a fine example of the high-end, high-quality Hollywood product we’d get slightly more regularly if audiences actually showed up.”
Thanks, the reason i was asking is because the descriptions were different. Gonna watch and hope its a remake and not a mock-up.
It had enough grasp to keep me watching but in the back of my mind I could see it coming but just wasn’t quite sure how they were going to finish it off, good watch 4.5
I know it’s a remake, but I did not expect to be blown away by this. I knew it would be good but I didn’t think it would be great. If you’re not a fan of old film noir you may not be as into this as I was. That said, never have I felt so close to being 16 years old again, “discovering” how exciting this film genre was. It felt so Bogie and Bacall (and yes, Tyrone Powers) but in such a refreshingly modern way. The snow itself was a supporting role and just gorgeously filmed. The selective color styling throughout was also really a thing of beauty. And Cooper knocked it out of the park. I feel like a fool for never seeing the vintage Hollywood glam in his looks before this role and it’s in no small part due to his efforts. A female can be transformed with makeup and wardrobe, but when it comes to vintage a male really has to work at it and Bradley made it look effortless. Although clearly more graphic than an old black and white movie, it was pulled off with the same period appropriate, gritty desperation as the classics. If I had any complaints, I would say that Ms. Mara’s character wasn’t really necessary. You could have replaced her with literally anyone and it’s a waste of her talent. I feel she was made to take too much of a back seat for literally the entire movie. However, evil as she was, Blanchett was truly a Bacall to Cooper’s Bogie. Watch this movie. If you’re not a fan of film noir you will be by the end of this movie. I feel a black & white binge coming on.
What I liked about the movie is the classic feel to it. Its a chronological type movie and period piece. Reminiscent of the 1950s black and white movies. I enjoyed watching it and will probably watch it again later.
Well it is a remake of the ‘47 movie so you’re correct in your reminiscence.
I am huge fan of the original film. I didn’t really love this remake. I thought that the best scenes were any and all with Cate Blanchett going full on period noir. The scenes with her and Bradley Cooper on-screen together were the most electrifying and watchable. It was also about 40 minutes too long.
did not know what i clickd on going in to this, but it grabd me and showballd us all the way to the end where i was very exited and just coulden help thinking “hope you like chicken” 5/5 good cinema
I chose not to watch to original hoping to enjoy this one.
I enjoyed the first quarter but then fell into boredom coz its predictable.
I resort to fast-forwards to get some bits or pieces I could enjoy.
Couldn’t find any.
It ends the way it starts.
As predicted.
In an odd way this reminds me of Pan’s Labyrinth.
That one cured my insomnia.
Unfortunately this one doesn’t.
You are right very predictable story i would rather it stay at the carnival but we knew Bradley cooper was shady as hell and Cate Blanchette pull a sharon stone on his ass he didn’t see it coming. He was warn so many damn times but he ended up where he beloing
Ain’t quite what you’d expect Guillermo del Toro to make, is it? Certainly an interesting film.
Good movie! The first hour has a great Carnivale feel to it. If you haven’t seen that, check it out: https://www.primewire.vc/tv/2290-watch-carnivale
Perfect casting of Blanchette as the femme fatale but I can’t figure out her character’s motivations for doing all that she did. Unless she was just plain nuts? Any ideas? That part was, for me, the only glitch in an otherwise fantastic flick.
8/10
Money, control and manipulation.
She is a person who needs to feel better and more powerful than others, likes to be always right and in control, to the point it doesn’t matter if she hurts others to get what she wants. one of those ways is becoming a therapist, where she has power over her patients and most likely doesn’t even help them that much because she likes to be the top dog and, as we see in the movie, she is quite manipulative.
First sign of it, ad whole reason behind her actions, is how she publicly went to his shows to figure out his system, and then publicly challenged him to humiliate him and expose him as a fraud in front of everyone, not for justice but for herself to feel powerful. But what happened was that he won twice, once by tharting her plan of exposing him publicly but also by saying some very specific personal things in front of everyone. That’s why she did what she did, she felt so humiliated that decided to take vengance. In conclusion, she’s just a really bad person.
So, in other words, just plain nuts.
Just plain old moral ambiguity?
