A couple travels to Northern Europe to visit a rural hometown’s fabled Swedish mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult. |

Loved this, pretty much what I expected out of Ari Aster (Hereditary Writer/Director) Excellent movie that doesn’t consist of the usual tripe. Original and refreshing and creepily weird in a good way. Id recommend to anyone looking for something different and creative.
yah, totally agree. its what i was tryin to say in my dumb comment.
it was beautiful in a very creepy way. enjoyed it.
Finally! Something beautiful and creepy, refreshing and original. Midsommar is visceral, thought provoking and downright terrifying! This is horror on par with (the original) ‘The Wicker Man’.
Get him to the greek would describe this movie as a type to mess with your mind for lack of better words anyways too wierd for my taste in movies, knew it would be like this but i just gave it a try anyways.
Ari Aster…the man knows how to make creepy, visually stunning films. this is a slow burn movie, so if youre looking for jump scares and fast paste horror, this isnt it. one of the things this movie uses alot is murals and paitings to tell the story. from the very beggining, in Dani’s house, when you notice the big pianting of a bear and a little girl, all the way to the sleeping quarters in Midsommer, with several murals surrounding them. pay attention to them, they forshadow a lot of the film. this is one movie you have to pay attention to , and you might have to watch several times to figure out. for me definitly a solid 8/10
Cool movie! Why, it was everything I always imagined the Midsommar festival to be like in Sweden. Norway’s isn’t near as much fun! This is what happens when you can’t handle your mushroom-flavoured mead lol
awwwww… someone didn’t likey me little comment and down voted it… boo hoo butthurt waah waaahhhh goo goo.
I mean.. who looks like the bigger cry baby, the person who down voted your comment or you for making another childish comment getting all butthurt over a down vote? Come on man..how pathetic can you be? I would down vote your comments myself if my iPad showed that option.
or how about the dbag who didn’t even get that I was being facetious… yeah, look it up, I’ll wait. That was actually a light hearted jab at the idiots who whine endlessly about getting down voted, but I guess that blew right over your head. You’re probably one of them from how you felt the need to wax idiotic over something so petty… and then to brand name-drop as if we’re supposed to be impressed.. both pretentious and pathetic. yawwwwwn
This was an alright movie but it was about an hour longer than it needed to be. I found myself watching the time and counting the minutes until it was over. Some of it made sense, some of it did not but it was worth a one time watch but definitely never again. 7/10
“What has been seen cannot be unseen.” This film uses shock tactics, rather than suspense, thrills, or scares. I was not frightened, I was disgusted. The intentionally dissociative and hokey beginning worked very well, when the outrageous shock tactics began they were tolerable, by the third act, they were offensive and unnecessary. To me, this is lazy story telling. There’s no real story here for me. It stayed with me in a very negative way. If you want a shock jock film, this one is it, otherwise, it has little to offer after the 2nd act.
Was pretty good, psychological thriller for sure. I wanted more answers though. Cant wait for the extended version to come out! hopefully we get to see what happens afterwards.
This film started out slow. When the craziness starts it’s pretty shocking and in your face at first… then everything else just builds up from there; one crazy thing after another. One thing is for sure, don’t mess with cults in the Swedish mountains. As far as horror, this film is a horror in it’s own right; it’s weird, creepy, and violently shocking at times. It’s a really f-ed up film, to say the least. I enjoyed it, though. Really worth the watch. 5/5
It was allright. Not the best movie I´ve seen this year perhaps, but certainly not the worst either! Cool to see an american film set in Sweden though! Hälsingland (The province where the movie is set) is amazingly beautiful and swedish midsummer celebrations are good fun! (No human sacrifices necessary though, just a stout liver, a taste for pickled herring, and a mind set to party mode required!)
I´ll rate the movie at 7 stars out of 10. A good watch if you got a couple of hours to kill!
Pretty freakin intense… 7.5/10
they did that poor guy cold blooded at the end .I want to try all the drugs they did on there exept shrooms shrooms make me crawl in the fetal position for hours with my brain laughing at me . Im never doing thoes again.
Pretty much the exact same thing nearly happened to me the one and only time that I visited Sweden several years ago. They never mention those murderous pagan death cults in those little guide books that you buy at the airport before you go there do they? That’s probably something that needs looking in to I think. It is an almost breathtakingly beautiful place though, so there is that. . .
Reminiscent of “The Wickerman” theme: modern man meets a surviving ancient cult. I thought their culture of life and death was pretty well illustrated. It’s not a horror movie, in the sense that death is embraced. I was never afraid, just captivated.
Not for everyone because of it’s length and subject, but if you’re in past the 25’ prologue, I’d say you’ll probably know whether you’ll want to keep watching.
I found the ending extremely satisfying. 4/5
it was alright, not really a horror movie. cool setting and premise
glad I didnt waste my money sleeping through this at the theatre. if youre into being bored enjoy!
Such a garbage movie if you can even call it that
Why did you think it was garbage drooliette?

PS. Don’t forget to checkout Gypsy’s Official Trailer!
sorry… aftr the first 45 mins i figured it was time to move on or go to sleep. should’ve read the comments first
It started ok…. but didn’t make sense from the mental people onwards…. Main theme is: never go to a country, far away from civilisation!!! All you’ll find is mentally ill people, where you’ll end up dead and eaten up like 🥧 pies!
Beautiful and violent at the same time. This is pretty much what I think Eli Roth was going for with all of his young people go abroad movies. 4/5
This movie sucks. That was a waste of 2 hours.
This is what you get when swede millennials try to make a horror movie.
is there any midsommar director’s cut link yet?
finnaly out to bad im trapped in a 13 reasons why session
Yea I’ve been meaning to watch that, heard its got crazy!!

eff 09/24 : New HD Versions. Clean Video & Audio!
refreshing and original, I love the viking punishment.
Which link has the English subtitles for the Swedish bits, please?
None. This is from the trivia- The Swedish dialogue spoken by the Hårga natives are deliberately not subtitled in order to create the sense of isolation for the audience and especially the foreign visitors.
Thank you for that information. I saw a review of the film recently and it had subtitles so I thought the movie would too.
There are parts that did have subtitles and others that didn’t… again, its deliberately done for the sake of suspense.
The nature is hungarian, the costumes are some sort of slavic, the music is anything but swedish and the ambience is just weird. The only thing swedish about this film are some of the actors!
2/5 stars!
eff 09/22 : New HD Versions.
Language is English with HC (hard-coded) Foreign Subtitles.
Crap. I thought you meant subs for the Swedish parts. HaHaHa—I skipped through a bunch of versions lookin’ for ‘em!
I guess we’ll have to wait for the extended version.
Then why not simply use the Embedded Version & Check one of the many Subtitles available.
Tried that too. I always got a ‘Failed to find subs’ on the ones I tried. Did I miss something?
Edit:(I even did a manual search through Opensubs and Subscene for this one)
This Status Update you are replying to is on older one. There are New Versions effective 09/24.
This can be confusing for others, so I will be removing it’s visibility by using the Contain Spoilers.
However, allow me to address your concerns.
You must have your Adblocker Turned on or Blacklisted for that message to appear. With it Whitelisted, the external Subtitle Links will appear, although unprotected from possible redirects.
If there are no Subtitles for the Swedish-speaking parts yet, it’s a Catch-22 proposition. If all the Versions available have none,
Reporting them now would remove the only source currently available for everyone.
Readdressing this issue once new Versions become available is our best option. Patience is the key.
Thank You for your contribution!
I found the same subs offsite too. Doesn’t seem to be any for the swedish out yet.
Thanks for the info about having to have ublock off for it to work.
(Though I got over 6 popups setting it up so screw that for regular use!)
Thanks for a great site!
No worries! and to you as it brought out there are bugs still to be worked out.
I’ll be reporting them to Dev_Team.
Aloha!
