With powerfully understated empathy, Sofian combines voice-over interviews with battered women, and a counselor who works with “recovering” male batterers, with elegant animation to explore the experience of domestic violence from all sides. As the filmmaker both literally depicts specific events and gives abstract shape to the complex emotional pain such crimes unleash, her film comes to stand as a moving testament to the strength of her subjects. |
