= Low Quality | = Medium Quality | = High Quality | How do I watch these? |
I wanted to learn about the movie, not here apparently… NOTE: If you want to indulge in a treatise on the combustibility of oxygen, then do continue indeed, otherwise, run away and save yourself!
wow the comments. i thought this was a very good movie. and i liked it had a post credit scene so the story is not over so im looking forward to Elevation 2 to get the answers we did not get in this first one.
I’m with you Chuck. I thought it was pretty good too.
I liked it.
Cam? How the eff aint this straight to video??
OK CAM - a little foggy and contrast challenged at times. Decent flick. Note to all writers, everywhere: Oxygen is not explosive. -By this I mean, not flammable at all.
Oxygen in tanks can be explosive if the tank is opened too fast or penatrated, so yes it will explode if you were to fire a bullet at it.
It won’t go up in a fiery blast. It is not flammable.
Oxygen is fuel. If there’s any flame or spark, oxygen tanks can explode. Even without an ignition source, a compromised tank releasing all of its pressure instantly is a pretty big boom. Here’s a single small tank being ignited on purpose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqbWc5bzoiE&ab_channel=CottonBalls
FYI O2 is NOT fuel it is an oxyidizer. A fire needs oxygen to burn, the more O2 the hotter and faster it burns. If O2 tanks are in a burning structure, the gas will expand rapidly and the tank will explode. If you have an oxygen tank and open the valve and place a burning match to the gas, all it would do is blow the match out. Once again oxygen is NOT a fuel.
thanks. read up on it and watched a couple fun science vids and now I know.
Thank you, sir, and having used a welding torch many times I can attest to the truth of your statement.
Sir??? LOL That’s a first for me. But I’ve been called worse. You may address me as ma’am, madame or just, hey you. Tee hee
Lol, soon as I posted that I thought, “What if…” But judged correctly, it seems, that you most likely wouldn’t be too insulted if I was wrong in my gender assumption. Apologies, and I will be more considerate of my words!
You have to have a heat source and fuel. And as the other poster said, Oxygen is not fuel. Fuel burns hotter and faster with pure oxygen, but doesn’t explode unless held under pressure and ignited. The oxygen won’t ignite, so the fuel must be the source of any explosion. That tank in your video isn’t being ignited. There is no fire. It is simply being compromised and rupturing, releasing all the gas. Hardly an explosion.
It’s an explosion. Explosions do not require ignition.

Kind of off track now. I said Oxygen isn’t explosive, that’s all. It isn’t. There are ways to make gas burst a container explosively, sure, but the gas Oxygen is not flammable or explosive when exposed to flame. That is what I’m saying. Tired of the day being saved by someone causing a fiery explosion with a non flammable gas.
Fiery explosion with non-flammable gas, as already posted once in this thread:
https://youtu.be/bqbWc5bzoiE?si=tTdRNLBYUhQg0MxF
I’ve now watched your video twice, and there is no fire whatsoever. No flame. Just a puff of very cold gas escaping (rather weakly) after being shot numerous times. I have a feeling you are just enjoying being a nay-sayer since your last comment is intentionally incorrect.
Then you haven’t watched it closely enough:

This is what AI answers: ²Yes, a bullet can potentially cause an oxygen tank to explode. If a bullet penetrates the tank, it can create a rapid release of gas under high pressure. This sudden depressurization can lead to the tank rupturing or even exploding, which poses significant risks of injury from flying debris and the force of the explosion.”
That is correct…it can burst a tank if shot. It’s not very likely a single bullet hole will cause a tank to burst, but possible. The point is that it won’t burn. If it does explode, it will be in a shower of ice crystals precipitated from the atmosphere and a fog of liquid oxygen - which could cause frostbite.
Again, I asked AI: An oxygen tank can potentially rupture or explode if shot by a bullet, but the outcome depends on several factors, including the tank’s construction, the caliber of the bullet, and the conditions at the time of the incident.
When an oxygen tank is punctured, the sudden release of high-pressure oxygen can cause a fire if there is an ignition source nearby. The oxygen can support combustion, leading to a fire burst if flammable materials are present. However, the tank itself may not explode in the way one might think; instead, it could rupture or become a projectile.
So you are correct regarding oxygen itself not being flammable, but if the right circumstances are met, it could trigger a fire burst. I would assume that such circumstances are normally not met as safe storage is required and no highly flammable or explosive substances should be stored close to oxygen tanks according to regulations and safety guids. For a movie, nethertheless, something with a fiery explosion is more relatable as most people will not know or understand the chemical properties of oxygen.
So says Apollo 13
That was a fire, turned into an inferno by an oxygen leak, not an explosion.
NASA.gov says “The Apollo 13 malfunction was caused by an explosion and rupture of oxygen tank no. 2 in the service module.”
Wow! There’s Inara from Firefly! Finally got around to watching this, I have to say, it kept me engrossed for the whole film. The monsters were fantastic, even made me jump a couple of times. I enjoyed this movie a lot! I highly recommend it to those who like a good monster flick.
Thanks. Ill give it a watch. Glad im not jumping in the 02 tank. Debate. 💥 as id twist it on the nature of the ignition source, type of fuel, temperature. But i only play with pyrotechnics, fireworks ..mixing up cake batter , make some 🌟 or 🔥 or friction sensitive, static gets many even when we do ground ourselves..ive had many seem ok till 10 pressing.. and they took that,, but no..getting smoke so outsidec we take that ..poof! Adjustment 3, 4 times and red to white to blue comets..after drying and fuse anx some blasting powder..i never saw them myself. Boss used them for another show. Said they were( adjectives) good.. more! But poof.. I had other things going on. More fun lighting then making. And I wanted to see the world.. ✌️
As a retired firefighter I had to jump into the “debate”. shrugs
It could have been good with a better story. Instead, there are many unanswered questions, lazy writing.
They’re saving all those unanswered questions for the sequel.
Gives ‘em something to talk about then.
Not bad but not great
Worth a watch. 5.8/10 I’d say is about right.
