Upstate New York has some amazing places hidden away. All along the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers there are locks that were created for moving goods. This area is known as the Erie Canal Corridor. The divergence of the canal happens at Waterford, NY. The more famous route continues up the Mohawk River. The lesser known continues up the Hudson River. Lock 5 is just north of Schuylerville, NY. It proceeds a beautiful waterfall. I spent the afternoon there admiring the handiwork of engineers and craftsmen and their attempt to tame the rocky rivers of the Upstate. |
