A young woman from the suburbs comes to the big city, hoping to find a thrill in her life. Dreaming of glamor and excitement, her first impressions of her new life are very disappointing. She is far from the downtown, staying at her friend’s apartment in a recession-ridden corner of the city. Instead of applying to jobs or graduate programs, she idles around the apartment all day long, losing herself in illusions. One fine morning, her roommate kicks her out of the apartment. Not knowing what to do or where to go in a city she knows nothing about, she walks the streets with her suitcase, trying to find her place in a world that wants nothing to do with her.
