In May and June 2009 Indian media reported what it saw to be racially motivated crimes against Indians in Australia. especially students. This short film of 12 minutes examines the impact of perceived racism on an Indian-Australian mixed marriage. Our heroine is Eve and Australian woman married to an Indian academic who finds herself confronted by perceived acts of racism against her husband and son both in Australia and in the USA. A visit from her husband’s student niece however allows Eve to realise that racism exists on different levels in all cultures. It is dangerous therefore to point at individual cases that seem to confirm racism for an entire nation or culture. This is ‘Cherry Picking’. |
