Fast Forward in Reverse is a short experimental film that explores the ideas of memory and longing and the need to take things more slowly. Through a frame by frame journey around the filmmaker’s favorite places in St. John’s Newfoundland, the film expresses how sometimes visual memory comes back in snippets and single frames, yet still allows us a picture of the place we call home. Made as part of the Nickel Independent Film Festival Super 8 series, the film was created in collaboration with Newfoundland Jazz musician, Chris Kirby, who composed the original score specifically for this project. Shot in just one day, with one roll of film, and all effects and editing done in-camera, the film was an experiment in spontaneous creation and inspiration. |
