If they wanted to make just another sci-fi then they should do that but they didn’t they made a show based on the books and then change everything that made the story good. some of the people in the show were only bit players who played a small part then were no longer part of the story, but they are changing them to fill other peoples rolls so they can keep the same actors, which is just spolling the vastness of the story.
1st, and foremost, Hollywood is in the business of making money. As written it would have been impossible to produce a series that appealed to a broad base of viewers. The books lacked character development, most likely on purpose, and that just doesn’t work for most people watching a TV series. Folks want to be invested in the characters and the only person that was really fleshed out in the books was Hari Seldon. Well, the Mule too, but who could identify with him?
I’ll gladly take what we are getting because this might actually be popular enough that I get several seasons of it as opposed to a single season of a ‘faithful to the book’ version that only appeals to a small base of sci-fi geeks and gets canceled.
