Loosely inspired by American journalist Jake Adelstein's non-fiction first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat, the crime drama series, filmed on location in Tokyo, captures Adelstein's daily descent into the neon-soaked underbelly of Tokyo in the late ‘90s, where nothing and no one is truly what or who they seem.

I’ve been waiting for this, for a grip. I read the book, after stumbling upon it at a Japanese-oriented bookstore, while with a friend, and I’ll honestly say, Jake Adelstein’s memoir of his time working as a writer for one of the top 3 papers in Japan, is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read, so I assume this should be great, too.

There is enough material to stretch out 3-4 seasons, if they wanted, and maybe even 5, as Jake takes on things that rival Woodward & Bernstein, if not on a more grand scale (not because it’s political, but because it is HUGE).

If the show is half as good as thr book, it’ll be picked up for a second season. And so far, the first few episodes are pretty good. The only issue I’ve noticed is the lack of easily accessible English subtitles for the large portions of the episodes that are spoken in Japanese, but I’ve seemingly figured that out, so far… That said, at the moment, the show is only up to episode 5, and I’m not even there, yet, so we shall see…
