Hopewell follows central protagonist David, a mechanic who has worked full-time at his uncle’s garage since he was 10 years old. After his parents’ untimely death, David has become a recluse, rarely engaging with others and never leaving his uncle’s garage where he eats, sleeps, and works. David, who is in his mid-30s, has entirely disconnected himself from the rest of the world, and lives in the images of the postcards he collects of New Brunswick destinations that he has placed on the wall of his work space in the garage. The film is an exploration of David’s struggles to gain personal freedom and independence. |
