In a brief prologue set around 1910, a terrified man is pursued through the woods by an axe wielding farmer and brutally murdered for straying on to his land. At his trial, the man claims to have been possessed by an ‘evil spirit’. The film moves forward to ‘present day’ and four friends; Dermot, Chester, Hannah and Megan are on their way to the same location for a weekend break. However, when they arrive at their rented cottage ‘which is apparently the former home of an axe murderer’ Dermot is immediately confronted by an old hag and warned that he should leave! When he tries to convince Chester, Hannah and Megan that he has not only heard a Banshee screaming, but he has seen the bitch as well, his words are met with ridicule. It isn’t long before they regret not taking the Banshee’s warning seriously!
