Set in El Paso, Texas in 1986—in an era and culture of continued racism and intense homophobia— FORGIVING HEART follows the friendship of two teenagers: Yoli (Latina) and Laurie (African American). While their big rival basketball game looms around the corner, an unforeseen incident at school catapults the girls into an intense day and journey of self-discovery. This day changes their friendship forever. In particular, for Yoli, whom we discover has left the violence at home—she’s forced to face the violence within herself and the grave consequences it has already yielded. |
