A Palestinian family in Israel. An existence of political interest. Members from three generations of the Jabarine-family talk about their lives in a country, which they call their homeland, but where they cannot feel at home. A status they define as ‘absent-present’. For all Jabarines, politics and the struggle for a Palestinian identity constitutes their setting of daily life, in public and in private. Demonstrations serve as family-reunions. Political conferences become weekly leisure activities. Regular detentions and court trials: normal every-day-routine. Through its very personal approach the film contributes to an apparently never-ending discourse which affects the whole world. It focuses on those people, who live with this conflict for generations and often disappear behind the cliches of daily news coverage. |
