Jean is a popular on-air television news reporter. He’s been doing a series on the increasing police state in which they live, this condition being sanctioned by the political agenda of the sitting government. Because of these charged stories which he fervently believes, Jean is asked to resign, with the official story told to the public being that he is on a prolonged medical leave. He knows that he will be watched by the police because of the stories regardless of what he does following his resignation. Rather than stop his work, Jean decides to take a legitimate reporting job in the north as a cover, all the while continuing on with his exposés on the police state. Traveling around in an RV to collect these stories, he is accompanied by his girlfriend Lise, a schoolteacher who is on her summer break. Affected both by the isolation in the area in which they travel and the result of the police state on the people they meet in the north, Jean and Lise individually come to the realization of what they want out of their relationship, and out of life in general. What they end up doing, however, may ultimately be outside of their control. |
