We meet Coach Gene Douglas and his track team of boys about 14 years old. He overhears them talking about the facts and myths of sexuality so he offers a couple of sessions of straight talk, answering their questions and giving an overview of puberty and the male and female reproductive systems. He’s cheerful and direct, using simple drawings as illustrations; masturbation and wet dreams are natural, pregnancy is now possible. There are no jokes, no sniggers, no snide comments about girls. At the end, a couple of the boys have an informal swimming date with a couple of girls at what looks like San Francisco’s Lake Merced. |
