Irish artist Paul Kerr shares his experiences of self-imposed isolation in an abandoned military barracks in the remote western reaches of Donegal. Left to his own thoughts and haunted by the history of the place, the isolation led him to confront his own 'dark side'. His deteriorating mental state appears to have echoed the slow decay of his surroundings. In recognising new life in the decay Paul Kerr finds a sense of renewal, describing how his experiences have informed his art and its critical place in his philosophy of life.
