Rica and Nuti, two women on their own, need to transport their dead mother-in-law to her place of burial in another town: Focsani (the dead woman’s home town). They hire the services of Fanica, an acquaintance of theirs, a former policeman, presently tractor driver in a private farm. The transport of the coffin, without any legal papers, is arranged by Fanica in his characteristic style. He shows up at the door of the two women with a full “company”. Three men of different ages and degree of kinship: Relu, Ionut (brothers) and Tomita (Fanica’s son), who, as Fanica says: “ … could lend a hand.” The whole party, the two women and coffin included, board a van and set out to Focsani. During the same night, two young people (Rica’s nephews) wait for them at the cemetery’s chapel. Out of boredom, they play TURKEY. An itinerary that would normally have required two hours takes a whole night. After many adventures, the van carrying coffin and passengers reaches its destination: the Focsani cemetery. After a play of coincidences, we discover that the two young men are not Rica’s nephews and were waiting for someone else… … yet the van, for “specific reasons”, does not remain at the point of destination but continues its journey with a single passenger on board: … the dead woman in the coffin. This entire story is seen by a turkey who comes from America and is headed for Kiev. |
