I dont think this was a slow pace movie. they had me at the first boat scene. lol this was a pretty interesting film.
There’s slow-pace and then, there’s slooow-pace. This movie was the later. And I don’t mind a slow-burner but this was too much for me. Can’t have a 2 hours and ten minutes movie, without anything to keep the audience’s attention throughout that length. I lost mine and never got it back. And I love Dan Stevens, he’s a good actor. Usually. But not here. He looked like he was constantly constipated and was overacting. And Michael Sheen, an amazing actor, was wasted here. I was bored and had to fast-forward a couple of times. And in the end, not much is know about the why things or the “creature”. A big disappointment for me, considering the quality of actors involved.
Sadly due to the modern fast-paced, ‘’in your face’’ action, CGI, thriller type movies that Hollywood churns out these days most audiences just don’t appreciate or even comprehend this type of deeply cerebral film. Yes, it is a SLOW burn ~ but there really is so much information to be gleaned it has to be slow! Instead of fast-forwarding you needed to be paying attention in order to know about the ‘’why’’ and the creature!
I found the film to be disturbing as well as entertaining. It is a mixture of the macabre within the idyllic, supernatural within the faith (religious), insane within the sane, etc. Basically a study of contrasts ~ possibilities existing that should be impossible…. and the age old Good vs. Evil.
Very well acted and great cinematography. I am glad I watched and definitely recommend to anyone that enjoys a cerebral film that challenges you to use your mind!
I tend to stay away from religious type movies. Me and my brother had an abusive mother who hid behind her religion. Even though I like Dan Stevens, I don’t care to watch this movie.
