Most people are familiar with the remake of this called Meet Joe Black, done by Martin Brest who did Beverly Hills Cop & Scent Of A Woman. Of the two, this is considered the best, while Joe Black was sort of mixed. There’s also a 1971 remake with Yvette Mimieux who’s mostly known for The Time Machine & Toys In The Attic with Dean Martin. That version is also considered to be better than Joe Black. We like Joe Black a lot, but this original & the 1971 are very good too.
We LOOOOVE this film. In our opinion, it is miles better than the remake, which didn’t carry to class and suspense of this first. Although many BP fans will disagree, we will watch this on the weekend. Excellent information Random. Thanks.
Very true. The 1998 remake only had one fully developed character & that was Hopkins. The others weren’t brought out as much even though that one was 3 hours. Brest took a lot of time on the conniving characters after Hopkins’ business. We’ve not seen the 1971 version in ages. That’s the one we’re looking for right now. Have a nice day P & P!
Huh, the premise of this movie sounds EXACTLY like that of “Meet Joe black” with Bradd Pitt…sounds like that movie got its inspiration from this one maybe…LOVE “Meet Joe Black” btw, one of Pitts best roles IMO and Anthony Hopkins was brilliant.
