This MGM short film, par of the James A. Fitzpatrick Traveltalk series, explores the land and the culture of the Incas. Prior to the Spanish the vast Inca empire spread across all or parts of Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and northern Chile. The duration of the Inca dynasty has been estimated at 500 years and lasted until the Spaniards arrived. Their cities and fortresses were built from quarried stone and transported great distances. The city of Machu Picchu was re-discovered in 1914 high in the mountains of northern Peru and is in remarkable condition. |
