Desperate to retrieve their stolen car, father and son embark on an urban odyssey finding compassion, cruelty and poetry along the way. Starring Colin Astor Gainey (six-and-a-half-years-old with an unmistakeably old soul) and Eloy Mendez (Bread and Roses). Based on an incident the director witnessed while waiting in line at an impound lot during his very first day in Los Angeles (a city he never loved before making this movie.) Impounded trains its lens on neighborhoods in LA rarely photographed and in making the film, I chased the spirit of The Bicycle Thief; the pulsing heart of Amores Perros and the dulcet lyricism of Days of Heaven. |
