On 30th May 2011, ABC TV’s Four Corners aired ‘A Bloody Business’ highlighting some of the horrors of Australia’s live animal export trade to Indonesia. The program caused an outrage within the Australian public. Within two days, 200,000 people had signed a petition to ban live export. Within a week the Australian Government had imposed a temporary ban on live export trade to Indonesia. on the 18th of June protests against live export were organised in cities across Australia. ‘The Steps’ follows writer and human behavior specialist David Coles as he talks to people at the Adelaide protest on the steps of Parliament house and asks ‘Why not stop the abuse of animals, period, not just little steps which change nothing but the location of the abuse and death?’. |
