Paul Krüger gets a surprise visit from Krygovice in the Czech Republic. The mayor of the small border town pays her respects to the Berlin pensioner in person to offer him a surprising inheritance. However, Krüger has just as little good in common with the estate of his deceased aunt Vera - the dilapidated family brewery - as with his birthplace, which he had to leave in the turmoil of war at the age of five at the hand of his German mother. Luckily times are different now, but the worries in Krygovice are great. Only Krüger, as heir, can prevent Chinese real estate speculators from bidding on the brewery and closing it. So he lets himself be persuaded and travels to the sleepy provincial town with his buddies Bernd and Ecki. On site, the beer-savvy trio realized that the traditional art of brewing and the friendly staff deserve a chance. However, the will of the cunning aunt has a pitfall: Krüger can only take over the inheritance together with his brother Emil, who was staying in the Czech Republic with his father at the time. For him, too, the pain about the breakup of the family runs deep: the dropout does not want to have anything to do with his brother from the capitalist West or with the hated brewery, which was even more important to his father than his family. Paul’s persistence is needed to break Emil’s bitterness. |
