“ZIMZUM” is a no budget project positioned between art video and experimental feature. An apparently simple but multi-layered story, told by an invisible narrator voice over, takes viewers on a complex trip in the literal sense: in the middle inside into metaphysical landscapes and thus in a world of creation and illusion. “ZIMZUM - The English subtitled version” is an independent artwork with a precisely composed lettering design. It’s artistic message differs, in some extent, significantly from the non subtitled version. According to the director it is meant to be the final version. This film didn’t yet had a world premiere. The film was shot outdoors in Iceland and indoors in Austria with a Lumix DSLR camera. There was no further light or sound equipment. Original sounds were meticulously reworked. Some leading plot points are the result of spontaneous improvisations in reaction to specific landscape situations in Iceland. The script wasn’t written before finishing the complete video editing. There are a lot of more or less ironic references to cabbalistic ideas, especially to the unique concept called Zimzum. The essence of that theory is described in lyrical verses that precede the film as a preface title - without however mentioning the cabbalistic origin. The film was produced without any public funding and was entirely self-financed with the support of a few private sponsors. |
