Ambivalent and full of hope: How does Israel really work? This portrait of an almost 100-year-old man speaks for itself - and the identity of a young state whose development is still in progress and doesn’t seem to stop concerning us. Hans Hausdorf, born 1919, grew up in a Breslau orphanage, not knowing his mother and not accepted by his father. Having emigrated in 1938, he changed his name into Chanan Hadar and started a new life in Israel - as the only surviving member of his Jewish family. A simple life under very special circumstances unfolds, tightly connected with the foundation and identity of the new state of Israel. “Love needs a life”, says Chanan. Romantic ideas are not enough. In his case a very unusual job provides the family’s basis. Chanan defends his Jewish existence by working in a bomb factory. |
